Fun Fact: Beauty hasn’t always been safe! Throughout history, some cosmetics have been downright deadly. ☠️ 🏴 In Ancient Egypt, men and women used kohl eyeliner made from lead. While it created their signature dark eyes, the lead often caused health problems like irritability and mental issues due to poisoning. 🏳️ In the Renaissance, women used a lead-based makeup called Venetian ceruse for a pale complexion. Even Queen Elizabeth I used it, but it caused hair loss, rotting teeth, and sometimes death from lead poisoning. ❕In the 1800s, Arsenic Complexion Wafers were sold to make skin paler by destroying red blood cells. This dangerous trend led to serious health problems like kidney damage and hair loss. Thankfully, beauty standards—and safety—have come a long way! 💄

Ever wondered how to spot dyes and pigments in your beauty products' ingredient lists? 👀 Let’s break it down! When checking the ingredient list, or INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients), on cosmetics, dyes and pigments are often labeled using specific codes or names. Here's what to look for: ✨ CI Numbers – The easiest giveaway! Ingredients starting with "CI" (Color Index) followed by a number, like CI 77499 (Iron Oxide Black) or CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), are pigments added for color. 💄 Lakes – Pigments are also often listed as ‘lakes,’ like Red 6 Lake or Yellow 5 Lake, which are specially processed for use in makeup like lipsticks and blushes. Next time you’re scanning that tiny print on your makeup, you’ll know exactly where your favorite colors are coming from! Understanding what’s inside can make all the difference in choosing products that align with your preferences 💡
