💭 Office T A L K S 💭 We were just discussing in the office with my colleagues who returned from Denmark. We were sharing their experience and how we managed things while they were away. It was a new challenge for both them there and us here, and we realized how important communication 💬 was before and after the conference. We wouldn't have been able to keep everything under control if we didn't have a well-thought-out strategy. On this topic, they told us how on the first day, Wojciech spoke about this crucial subject (in general), but especially in the fire industry. Wojciech emphasized the need for clear and targeted communication 🔊 tailored to various audiences, as a fire engineer. There are many people involved in a project who need to communicate with a fire engineer, and the challenges of conveying technical concepts to non-specialists, such as the general public, investors, and authorities, were discussed, along with the need for innovative communication strategies. Since we're on the topic, I'll share a picture from the conference because I would have liked to have been there, but I received a "souvenir" from my colleagues instead. 😁 What do you think about this topic? Within 10 years Swedish companies need 175 000 employees Regions and communes need 75 000 State employees 15 000 If part-time employees increase their work hours from 28 to 31 hours/week and the retirement age is raised by one year to 66 it will save employers from finding 100 000 workers. That leaves 185 000 vacancies. Where will they be found? Who will have educated them? Can they move to Sweden? Will Sweden provide an awesome place to live? All relevant questions that need answers soon! What does it mean to Nimmersion? Lots of work, great opportunities & challenges. What does it mean to Sweden? Testing in recruitment, still such a hot topic! Last week, a well-known Swedish psychiatrist took to national TV to absolutely roast the use of tests in hiring. My reaction? Grab the popcorn, LinkedIn fam! This is about to get interesting. The debate has been on fire since then. I’ve seen posts from people cheering it on and others passionately defending their stance. And you know what? I’m here for it. I wish every HR topic got this much attention - so many opinions, so many real-life examples being shared. Why? Because challenging what we think we know, no matter how experienced we are, is how we grow. It helps us sharpen our arguments and figure out if testing (in this case) really makes sense for our organizations. So, what’s next? Any other HR topics we should get a non-HR-super-expert-in-something-else to weigh in on? Let’s keep the debates rolling!

Last week we spend time on D, E & I in our #VELUX Supply workshop in Hamburg. We were helped by Søren Holmgren to experince and understand how it might be to have a disability. If you don’t already know Søren you also don’t know how he has turned his disability into a super power. Søren showed us multiple examples of how his blindness has improved his ability to listen. I believe that listening is a key in creating inclusion as well as psychological safety. If we listen actively and ask openended questions not only will we be more inclusive, but we will also improve problem solving and collaboration. I believe that by being more open, listening to understand and explore, we can open up for other unlocked super powers. What is your super power? and how can it be put to use better than it is today? It’s so fun and rewarding to enter a new organisation and discover that some of the great things I’ve learned in previous jobs are quite useful things to adopt also in new contexts. 2 years ago, at Ica Sverige, I learned to work according to agile methodology in our business planning process. It was not really love at first sight I can tell you, and I questioned the whole thing so much that my manager actually got quite irritated at me at some point. But the new ways of working grew on me and after having made it “our own” in my team, I can now truly call my self a fan of this very efficient and impactful way of making our work both more strategic, efficient, meaningful and not the least more FUN! After a few months at Greenpeace Nordic I managed to convince my HR team that this would solve quite a few of the challenges they were facing. Despite a very ambitious and productive team I could see their struggles with everything from lack of overview to stress due to heavy workload and silo thinking. We started off this new way of working in April and by the end of June we, as the methodology prescribes, had our first retrospective. We are still very much on a journey, but I was anyway so glad to see that we are going in the right direction. Just want to share 3 of the many positive quotes of what the new planning method has given us at this point in time: 📈”By asking ourselves what efforts in the coming quarter that are most impactful for the organisation, we are behaving as a strategic function” 👩🏼‍💻 🧘🏼‍♀️“We prioritize, thus have control over our workload and and have better worklife balance” 👩‍❤️‍👩“Our team collaboration has strengthened” I am so much looking forward to continue to refine this process with my team - I truly think the essence of agile planning methodology can be adopted by any organization and can rendre so much efficiency and impactfulness to their work. 👉 What’s a gig job? 👉 Who is a gigger today? 👉 What’s the status and the future of the gig economy? 👉 And why does it matter? These questions were discussed yesterday at Swedish JobTech's event about “How gig-jobs impact the labor market”. The panel, who to say the least were beyond qualified to answer these questions, all agreed that a growing number of today’s workforce want a more flexible and free way of working. It concerns anyone, in any industry, from any background, and in different stages of life. Because a flexible work structure offers students a way to make extra cash while studying, people a way to make money in between jobs, and others to build careers as entrepreneurs. However, what’s also clear is that independent workers wish they had access to better network, better society support and felt less financial insecure, which we need to work on. Thanks to LIN- Likestilling, Inkludering og Nettverk and Ellis Culture for such an amazing meeting. I had a great opportunity to dig deeper into the specifics of the job search process. I can surely say that Norwegians have a unique person-focused approach and values. For those who want to find a job in Norway, it is important to understand that a person’s competencies and personality are on the same level. For Norwegians, it is important to know about you as a person, about your hobbies and ability to work in a team. A wonderful set of values, in my opinion.
