We are already into week 3 of the summer school and students are busy with lectures and study visits. In addition to their chosen course, students are welcome to join various extracurricular activities. For example, some students attended the SDG Impact Assessment Tool workshop. The SDG Impact Assessment Tool, developed by WEXSUS (West Sweden Nexus for Sustainable Development), is a free online learning tool that visualises the results from a self-assessment of how an activity, organisation or innovation affects the SDGs. Our students were challenged with a case on free public transport in the Västra Götalands Region, assuming that the full cost of the public transportation system would be covered via taxes, eliminating the need for tickets or fees. You can read more about the SDG Assessment tool on https://lnkd.in/dxSJs-EJ

Inspiration and hopefulness were two of the words students summed up their study visit with. Thank you Textile Fashion Center for a very well-thought study visit for our students.
Today we had a visit from around 100 international students from the Göteborgs universitet summer course: International Summer School for Sustainability. During 5 weeks, from June 27 to August 2, students from all over the world take several courses focusing on sustainability from different perspectives. The summer course also includes study visits. Today, it was the Textile Fashion Center in Borås’ turn to host, with The Nordic Textile Academy welcoming the delegation along with Science Park Borås at the Do-tank Center. Adrian Zethraeus gave an inspiring presentation on sustainable consumption in fashion and textiles, which concluded with a coffee break and a workshop where the students were tasked with reflecting on what each individual consumer can do to contribute to more sustainable consumption. The students were then divided into three groups to receive closer presentations on what happens inside the Do-tank Center, how Borås INK works with start-ups, and how the Nordic Textile Academy works supporting the development of creating circular jobs. Before heading back to Gothenburg, the group also had time for lunch in the city and visits to the Textilmuseet and the Smart Textile Showroom. − We are so pleased with the visit. THANK YOU! And it was so good for all the students to come together now that they are at the beginning of the summer course too, says Anna Bellomi, International Relations Officer at the University of Gothenburg. We from the center also say a big thank you for the visit, it was so fun to have you here and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again next summer. Thanks to Adrian Zethraeus, Git Guldare, Stefan Dinér, Kerstin Syrén, Mathias Bräck, Eva Blomqvist and not least Lenita Oderfält for great hosting and interesting presentations.

Did you know that in 2019 University of Gothenburg launched the Sustainability Thesis Award, GUSTA, with the aim of motivating students’ critical engagement with sustainability challenges and search for more knowledge towards a sustainable world? The award addresses all bachelor's, magister and master's students in all programmes across the University and awardees are selected by a scientific committee with professors from different faculties at the University of Gothenburg. Apart from a high scientific quality of the theses, the evaluation criteria include: holistic integration of different dimensions of sustainable development, originality, critical thinking, and contribution to the current knowledge in sustainable development. Yesterday we could celebrate the 2023 awardees and listen to their interesting presentations: Bachelor’s programme - Elsa Wallin, Small-Scale Farming, Gender Relations and Resource Allocation: Barriers to Adoption of Nature-Positive Solutions in Western Kenya - Philippa Hedström and Martin Ekendahl, From Tree Huggers to Money Makers: How ESG Scores Boost Corporate Financial Performance in the EU - Beatrix Schützer, ”Allting handlar ju om förståelse liksom, viljan till förståelse”- Hur jordbrukare upplever relationen till sina kunder inom restaurangbranschen Master's programme - Alexandra Silvestru, Weaving relations: exploring the epistemological interaction between indigenous & traditional ecological knowledge and Euro-Western paradigms in education for sustainable development – an umbrella review. - D.C Ruvini De Silva, Circular value creation in the Swedish seafood processing industry for human consumption: status, challenges, and opportunities. - Filippa Werner Sellbjer, Swedish MP’s perceptions of their ability to act on climate change. Congratulations, we hope to keep in touch to enrich the summer school program!

We did have a fantastic cohort of students this year! Soumyankar Mohapatra, you are welcome back to University of Gothenburg should your future endeavours bring you back to Sweden.
"Some skills cannot be seen on paper, but those are the ones that get you ahead" - Björn Nyström Thank you very much to Summer School for Sustainability for organizing five weeks of summer that I shall never forget. I have learnt a lot about myself, my peers and my planet from a variety of perspectives. The experience has shaped my ideas about climate, society, politics and economy and how I can change them. The program has taught me to think again about my most radical views and my day-to-day life choices. I am certain that the summer school program has turned me into a better citizen of the Earth. Thank you for your mentorship Birgit Penzenstadler, none of this would have been possible without you.
