At the ‘DPI for People & Planet’ event during #UNGA79, Bård Vegar Solhjell, Director General at Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, posed a question and challenge to the attendees: "How come it's sometimes harder to sell digital public goods to decision makers than issues like education or healthcare? We sometimes think in traditional thematic categories instead of investing in those things that can be groundbreaking across the board." Young, successful social entrepreneurs in emerging economies are demonstrating investable, groundbreaking digital public good solutions. Like Rumee Singh, CEO and Co-Founder of Rumsan, which harnesses blockchain to manage digital cash and voucher assistance to those without bank accounts, before and after natural disasters like floods. And Spencer Horne, Founder of Cloudline, who created solar-powered autonomous airships revolutionizing real-time data capture and supply chain deliveries. "Sadly, the current strategy we have in place to protect children online is inadequate … addressing issues only after they arise. Children’s innocence is shattered, and trust is betrayed. Limited access to the Internet leads to a lack of digital literacy, which exacerbates the problem. They deserve more than this; they deserve the tools to thrive. We must adopt bold, innovative strategies. Programmes that empower parents and children. Children should be able to explore the internet freely without fear of exploitation." Alaine, UNICEF Youth Advocate from Belize, spoke at the event Child Protection and Digital Safety in the Era of AI at #UNGA79. The event, led by the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, was championed by Kitty van der Heijden, Deputy Executive Director of Partnerships at UNICEF, who noted, “There is still much work to be done – we must keep pace with a digital sphere that is evolving and changing by the millisecond.” Paula Ingabire, Rwanda's Minister of ICT, highlighted work with UNICEF Innovation on bridging the digital divide and ensuring a safe, secure and equitable digital environment. How can we close digital divides by strengthening local innovation ecosystems and supporting youth-led solutions from emerging economies? 💡 This was a key question posed at the ‘Closing Digital Divides- the Road to an Inclusive & Rights-Respecting Digital Future’ event during #UNGA79. “Digital equity is crucial for democratizing healthcare access. With the right investment and support, we can extend life-saving diagnostics and education to every woman, regardless of her location or socioeconomic status. This is the future of healthcare—accessible, equitable, and transformative," said Ifeoluwa Dare-Johnson, CEO of Healthtracka , a digital platform enabling better health for women and girls. With access to support and funding provided by alx_africa in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, the young tech innovators and entrepreneurs in Africa are delivering transformational social impact. 🚀 Through the #SummitOfOURFuture campaign, UNICEF, Mastercard Foundation, alx_africa , AVPN and other partners are aligning to demonstrate and mobilize others to deliver an inclusive, equitable and open digital future for this and coming generations. 💙 Click here to read diverse profiles of other young tech innovators making global social impact 👉🏾 https://uni.cf/47uzg22 Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, European Commission, Microsoft, WITNESS, Humane Intelligence #SummitofTheFuture

To kick off Climate Week NYC, #Innovation30 climate entrepreneurs- all in the under 30 generation- stole the show at the Nat Gala co-hosted by UNICEF Innovation, S2G Ventures, and CurvePoint Capital 👏🏽 🔵 Kyle E. Cordova, Founder, AquaPoro 🔵 Clarabeth Concaret, Co-Founder, Fabricure 🔵 Noemi Florea, Founder, Cycleau "It was incredibly inspiring to meet with committed nature-positive investors and enthusiasts about the urgent need to close funding gaps for solutions that protect both people and the planet. I’m tremendously grateful for the opportunity to be part of UNICEF’s #Innovation30 portfolio and for their support for Fabricure. Tonight reminded me that we can only achieve our climate goals at scale with continued collaboration and support from a diverse community," said Clarabeth. At a time when less than 1% of climate financing goes to initiatives led or co-led by young people, #Innovation30 is a trailblazing demonstration of the global talent pipelines that should not be overlooked. With a presence across 190 countries, UNICEF is aligned with a network of leading climate accelerators to identify, vet and support cohorts of #Innovation30 founders and build a robust portfolio of climate solutions. We are actively looking for diverse partners to join us on this exciting journey 🚀 "AquaPoro is pioneering the deployment of a new type of atmospheric water harvesting (AWH) technology on the front lines of the climate crisis. This gathering reaffirmed the shared vision that our path to climate resilience requires collaboration and the fusion of groundbreaking technology with global financial support. AquaPoro's mission to strengthen and, ultimately, re-make the world's water supply aligns perfectly with this vision." said Kyle. Join us by directly supporting founders like Clarabeth, Noemi and Kyle, who have clear partnership asks, and help us source new cohorts and solutions in geographies and communities most affected by climate change 👉 https://uni.cf/456e01p #UNGA79 #NYClimateWeek #UNGA #ClimateWeekNYC

"The Global Digital Compact has to be passed. In many ways, this United Nations-led initiative is crucial. It creates a global framework that establishes global norms, allowing investors to define what the true north star should be, understand the real impacts, and become parts of the solution." Lauren Compere, Managing Director, Boston Common AM. At the 'Global Digital Compact and the Future of Trustworthy Digital Transformation’ #UNGA79 event, co-hosted by UNICEF Innovation, World Benchmarking Alliance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores de México, discussions focused on the #GlobalDigitalCompact (GDC) as a blueprint for responsibility and accountability in digital governance, with a focus on AI for social good. Panelists addressed key questions on the collaborations required between diverse industries and stakeholders to implement the GDC to maximize opportunities and mitigate challenges that lie ahead with AI. "The GDC is a game changer for many of the SDGs we're pursuing. From the UNICEF Office of Innovation's perspective, we're very positive and eager to explore various possibilities, including ensuring that digital public goods are utilized so we don't have to reinvent the wheel every time. We often discuss the responsibilities of tech companies, but the GDC is actually mobilizing everyone to empower all sectors to find new solutions that are more inclusive and equitable."
