Google Search Console performance report bug causes panic
Many of you woke up to seeing zero close to clicks and impressions this morning, this is an issue on Google's end Google confirmed.
Google Search Console’s performance reports are reporting today’s data by default, which means you are likely seeing close to zero impressions or clicks to your websites. This is confirmed to be an issue on Google’s end and there is no reason to panic – Google is working on addressing the issue.
Waking up in panic mode. SEOs and site owners woke up to their Search Console performance reports showing almost no traffic to their websites this morning. This led to extreme panic and concern for many. I covered a lot of that on the Search Engine Roundtable a couple of hours ago.
Do not panic, it is a Google issue. John Mueller, a Google Search analyst, confirmed for me this morning, saying, “It’s an issue on our side – the team is looking into it. Thanks to everyone for noticing & letting us know, this wasn’t meant to replace your traditional morning wake-up beverage.”
What it looks like. I posted a number of examples, here are some of those, but you can check your own reports to see more of the same:
Why we care. Take a breath, and let Google work on resolving the issue. It seems to me that Google is showing the most recent data, today, by default and since today just started, you may not see a lot of clicks and impressions yet. Google will resolve the issue through fixing the default reports or updating the documentation.
Postscript. As of 1pm ET, Google adjusted the reports not to show today’s data by default. So all should look good now…
