SearchBot FAQ

Is Search Engine Land SearchBot free to use?

Access to SearchBot is 100% free to use. Users get a pre-determined number of “tokens” each month. We may increase or reduce those limits at any time, and charge for access in the future.

Why is SearchBot slower than ChatGPT or other chatbots I’ve used?

Great question! SearchBot is built on top of ChatGPT and we’ve added more than 20,000 items (via Pinecone if you are curious) from Search Engine Land, which slows SearchBot down a little. We expect the speed to improve over time.

What’s the difference between SearchBot and simply using ChatGPT, Claude, Mid-journey, or any other generative AI platform?

Every generative AI platform is slightly different and each has its own strengths and weaknesses. SearchBot’s strength is that it’s the only chatbot trained on more than 20,000 Search Engine Land articles. We recommend you try it, along with all the other generative AI platforms and pick what works best for you!

Who is SearchBot designed for?

SearchBot is for marketers who want hands-on experience and knowledge of how generative AI tools work across a variety of use cases. SearchBot includes several personas “pre-tuned” with subject-specific context so you can start chatting without any prompting.

SearchBot’s value is using it to generate everything from plans to improve your SEO, ad generation for PPC, content marketing concepts, outlines, and more. The list is endless. The only limitation is your imagination!

What makes for a good prompt, and does it really matter?

Prompts that yield desired results follow this simple structure:

1. Always tell SearchBot how to act. For example, “Act as a senior-level marketing manager.”
2. Add details to the prompt. For example, “You are an award-winning marketer focused on B2B and SaaS software lead generation and marketing automation.”
3. Be very specific in your request. You can always reframe or adjust the answer and output via subsequent prompts or questions. For example, “Create a template for implementing and onboarding the content team to any new software or process.”
4. Before submitting a prompt, ask if there is anything missing. For example, “What else can I tell you?” or “What is missing?”
5. Tell SearchBot when and where to adjust as you go. For example, “Can you make your response more formal?”
6. If you want specific output, be sure to include that. For example, “Output your response as a table.” Additional formats can include “markdown”, HTML, JSON, etc.

So, in our example, the full prompt would be as follows:

“Act as a senior-level marketing manager. You are an award-winning marketer focused on B2B and SaaS software lead generation and marketing automation. Create a template for implementing and onboarding the content team to any new software or process. Format your output in markdown. Is there anything else you want to know before getting started?”

Will my company get in trouble for using SearchBot? Is what I create here private? Do I or my company own what I create using SearchBot?

We recommend that you never upload or share proprietary information with any chatbot, SearchBot included. What you create cannot be copyrighted by law. We recommend that a human vet any SearchBot response to ensure accuracy and that it is edited properly.

What are you using for image generation, and is it different than Mid-Journey or other generative image platforms?

SearchBot’s image generation is currently powered by DALL-E 3.

Will you expand the number of personas?

Yes! When we do, we’ll email subscribers and post the new personas on Search Engine Land. If you have any suggestions for new personas or other feedback, please leave it here.

I keep getting an error, or bad results, what’s going on?

Please submit any errors you see here. It’s very possible your error is because your chat was simply too long and you ran out of tokens.

However, if SearchBot is generating incorrect results or making up answers, please bear with us. Generative LLMs are known for sometimes making mistakes.

Lastly, try to rephrase your prompt, sometimes a single word can make a difference in the results you get from SearchBot.

Are you able to see everything I’m doing in SearchBot?

Yes. All prompts and conversations are logged and recorded. We review them and periodically publish them in Search Engine Land’s “Best of Bots” feature.

We’ve turned moderation on, which protects us and you from generating content that violates OpenAI’s policies. We’ve also enabled content moderation, which will automatically let you know if you’ve gone astray or into inappropriate areas of content generation.
