We are proud to participate in #YouthConnections, an initiative by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) Foundation and Singapore Polytechnic aimed at empowering youths by expanding their social networks through meaningful connections with business leaders. Our HR representative for this programme, Ramta, serves as a Youth Connector, engaging with students to provide them with valuable exposure and insight through three simple but impactful sessions: 1️⃣ Speed matching – to introduce them to various business leaders. 2️⃣ Bonding over lunch – offering a casual space to share experiences and advice. 3️⃣ Company visit – allowing them to see our industry in action. This year’s program, from September to November 2024, is not just about mentoring but giving these youths the power to choose and benefit from a broader perspective, one that can open doors to new opportunities. We believe in the power of community and the responsibility to inspire the next generation. Here's to making a difference, one connection at a time! 🙌 #YouthConnections #EmpoweringYouth #SocialImpact #BusinessLeaders #GivingBack #SingaporeBusinessFederation #CommunityEngagement

Last month, Our CEO, Vishal Vijay, attended the 2024 Pulse & Special Crops Convention. This event is the largest pulse and special crops event in North America and brought hundreds of industry leaders from around the world to Winnipeg for networking, education, and one of a kind experiences in the heart of Canada. Beyond engaging in insightful discussions on market trends and sustainability, he went the extra mile to visit our agri-processing facilities on the ground. At the agri-processing facilities located in Moose Jaw, Cut Knife, Innisfail, and Cut Bank, he took time to connect with the teams who work tirelessly behind the scenes: gaining a first-hand understanding of the complex processes that ensure quality and efficiency in production. This visit was not just about appreciating the impressive operations in place, but also recognising the dedication, skill, and teamwork of our people who make it all possible. Thanks to the Canada team for the great work done and for the hospitality shown during the visit. #LeadershipInAction #AgriProcessing #PulseCrops #Teamwork #Sustainability #pscc2024 #agricommodities #pulses

We were glad to host the Vlerick Business School-iGMO Study Mission, organised by Singapore Management University Family Business Institute when the mission was in Singapore last week. For over 30 years, the Vlerick Entrepreneurship Academy has been creating practical, robust insights to help owner-managed and family business #SMEs grow and succeed in today’s rapidly-changing business environments. The centre has become part of a vibrant ecosystem of nearly 130 growth-oriented, owner-managed, and family-managed companies. The centre provides a confidential forum where members and partners openly share insights and experiences. As a family-owned business, we are glad to have the opportunity to share our challenges and success stories with the group. It was heartening to hear from first, second, and third generation business owners in the room. Our chairman, Vijay Iyengar, shared the early days of starting the business, the turning point of success, and how he got the entire family involved in the business. Second generation family members, Vishal Vijay and Abhinav shared how they got into the business and the different aspects of the business each has been involved in, including focusing on #innovation and #ESG, to drive the business to the next level of growth. We were privileged to meet Hans Crijns, Professor of Entrepreneurship from Vlerick, who facilitated the session with his questions and comments to drive deeper engagement in the discussions. #familybusiness #multigenerationalbusiness #smallandmediumenterprises #growth

Recap of an insightful panel discussion organised by the Milken Institute and it is all about #decarbonization of our #foodsystem. According to the #AsiaFoodChallenge report on "Decarbonising the Agri-Food Value Chain in Asia", as a whole, agri-food emissions in Asia is responsible for approximately 42% of all agri-food emissions globally. Despite the significance of agri-food emissions in Asia, #decarbonisation in agri-food currently receives much less consideration than in other sectors, such as aviation and energy. The significance of agri-food emissions in Asia means the sector must be a key focus as Asia looks to decarbonise. Great facilitation by Holly Freishtat and our chairman, Vijay Iyengar, was glad to be part of the discussion with fellow panellists, Melody Wan, Dan Pathomvanich & Brian Kernohan. Check out some of the highlights of discussion 👇 The cost of action in agri-food would be significantly lower than completely decarbonising global aviation, or the equivalent impact on the energy sector. The lower cost of acting on emissions from agri-food is in large part due to the relatively low capital expenditure of the solutions (many are simple practices rather than large infrastructure or machinery investments) and the high technology readiness level of the solutions. ✅ Encouraging the consumption of plant protein as compared to animal protein will help. According to The Good Food Institute, global greenhouse gas emissions from animal-based foods are twice that of #plantbased foods. Alternative foods have the potential to significantly decarbonise agri-food – today, a plant-based burger emits up to 90% fewer emissions than a beef burger. However, more work needs to be done to increase adoption of plant-based and dairy-free options. The use of #pulses as a source of plant protein can help increase decarbonisation efforts - the very act of growing pulses will help fix nitrogen in the soil, hence improving soil quality and reducing the need for commercial fertilisers. Further, pulses used as a rotation crop, provides the benefit of increasing yields, helping to feed the 🌍 more efficiently. ✅ Initiatives like Acorn, by Rabobank,  #empower smallholder farmers by supporting them as they transition to sustainable agroforestry practices and measure the resulting biomass increase, issuing carbon credits accordingly. These credits are then sold to responsible corporates, with some of the revenue flowing back directly to the farmers. ✅Agricultural waste attracts increasing global attention to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for carbon neutrality. Production of biochar is an attractive system to meet both environmental and climate concerns so, incentivising biochar production is an effective solution. Earlier this week, our CEO, Vishal Vijay, attended a dialogue session and #networking lunch organised by Singapore Business Federation (SBF) Foundation to welcome PM Wong into his new role. The event was well attended by the local business community and provided a strong platform for open and insightful exchanges key topics shaping the future of the Singapore’s economy. Some key points: ✅ Sustaining the next phase of Singapore’s economic growth. Singapore is well-positioned to seize opportunities despite challenging circumstances. Geopolitical tensions, rising protectionism, and an ageing population pose headwinds to Singapore’s economic growth. But Singapore’s reputation as a stable, safe, and trusted place to do business remains a powerful value proposition for businesses. For #Singapore companies, digitalisation and overseas expansion remains key to doing well. ✅  Immense opportunities await in the region. Prospects are bright for businesses that expand overseas. Singapore companies must take a close look at the ASEAN region and be bold to explore regional expansion. While venturing overseas is a complex task, there are opportunities and organisations like SBF play a critical role in supporting businesses to navigate complexities as they head abroad. And the best way to end off a session like this would be a wefie 📷 with the PM. #businessdialogue #businesssupport
