It is with both sadness and gratitude that we are announcing Albertus Sarwono’s departure as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Allium Bio. As one of the co-founders of Allium Bio, Albertus has played a critical role in the start and growth of our team, our technology, and our success over the past 18 months. His brilliant work both in and out of the laboratory have helped us develop into a startup on the leading edge of biotech and foodtech, and he will be greatly missed by our team and partners. We look forward to following the success of his career and are hopeful and excited for the next chapter of Allium Bio, as we continue to build the future of food through co-culture!

3 days down (under), 2 more to go! 🌏 🇦🇺 🔬 This week Maxine Tan and I represented Allium Bio at the annual CSIRO Protein Futures symposium in Sydney, sharing the stage with some incredible scientists, startups, companies, and more in the two day event. Grateful to have the opportunity to share more about our unique co-culture technology, and start to build partnerships with innovators across ANZ! Sending a huge thank you to the folks who supported our journey from Singapore to Sydney, especially Dr Christine Pitt, Joshua Soo, David Smith (MBA), Max Sim S., and everyone else at CSIRO and Agrifood Futures. And a special shout out to all the other startups in our VEP cohort and our brothers and sisters in the Better Bite Ventures family, Abby Thompson (Miruku) and Andrew Janis (Vow), all of whom shared some of their companies' incredible growth stories on Day 1 of the event! Next stop is Melbourne for the last two days, to meet with even more of Australia's amazing agrifoodtech folks! #roadtrip #startup #foodtech

Allium Bio in Japan! 🇯🇵🍄🌿 As many of you know, I spent the last few days in Tokyo meeting investors, potential partners, and exploring all that the Japan agrifoodtech ecosystem has to offer… Despite only being here for a couple of days, several things already jump out to me: - Japan has a rich ecosystem of algae and fermentation tech, (see 株式会社ユーグレナ - Euglena Co., Ltd., Fermenstation, and The University of Tokyo spinout Algal Bio) though like much of the world, they’ve only more recently refocused this expertise onto the foodtech sector. Lots of exciting discussions about the potential of co-culture and fermentation with local players! - Like in the US and Singapore, the Japanese gov’t has built a strong innovation infrastructure, with grants, partnerships, and other tools providing crucial support for early-stage deeptech startups and businesses. Big thanks to Shinya Yamamoto, PhD for his insights into this topic. - The sheer amount of SG<>JP early stage investments, across multiple industries… Nearly every investor I spoke with (including angels, VCs, and CVCs) had made investments into Singaporean startups, across everything from AI to agrifoodtech, biotech to crypto, manufacturing to medtech, and more. Great to see this kind of early stage interest from all kinds of investors. - Bonus Fun Fact: apparently Japan has the highest ratio of vending machines to people in the world (1:23)🤓🤖 I can anecdotally support this, I feel like I’ve seen 2-3 machines on every other street corner. Such a cool intersection of foodtech, culture, and trends in safety/urbanization/fintech! Huge thanks to everyone I’ve had a chance to connect with and meet so far, especially Jinya Kurita (Global Brain Corporation), Lisa Masayama (SBI Investment) and Tetsuji Leung (Beyond Next Ventures Inc. ) for all the early introductions! Still have another couple days in Osaka and Tokyo, so if you’re in the region or know someone I should meet with let me know! Can’t wait to see what else I can learn from the Japanese ecosystem! #startup #foodtech #roadtrip

New month, new members of the team! 🎊 👩🔬 👩🔬 🎊 We're so excited to announce the addition of our new Chief Scientific Officer, Maxine Tan, and Research Officer Fangxin Shi to the Allium Bio team! Maxine joins us with a ton of experience in both foodtech and microalgae research from her time at Alchemy Foodtech , Viridos, and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and will be helping to lead our research and product development alongside our CTO Albertus Sarwono. Fangxin joins us fresh from National University of Singapore, where she has just finished her Master's in Biotechnology. While Fangxin actually started with us part time earlier this year, a few weeks ago she made the leap to full-time. Huge thank you to Wilma Heng and her colleagues at SGInnovate for their support in bringing Fangxin on board as well! If you're interested in being a part of this fast-growing foodtech team, keep an eye out for our upcoming job posts! #foodtech #newhires #startup

Last week was a whirlwind 🌪 in the best possible way...🎊 Thanks to the generous support and network of Agrifood Futures and CSIRO, Allium Bio has been invited into the latest cohort of the Venture Exchange Programme! We spent the last week with some incredible founders from Singapore and Australia, meeting investors, food partners, diplomats, and more. Always great to meet new folks in the agrifoodtech ecosystem, and see some familiar faces too! Simultaneously, we had the amazing opportunity to pitch at FHA-Food & Beverage, and network with all kinds of other food entrepreneurs and businesses, from all around the world. Fascinating to see how the different trends of food-as-medicine, sustainable ingredients, shifting customer preferences, and more are intersecting in different geographies. Huge thanks to Joshua Soo, Dr Christine Pitt, Shirly Kalush, and the CSIRO team for your work in organising all of this. Looking forward to the next leg of the VEP programme down in Australia at the end of May!

What an incredible week in Berlin for Allium Bio! 8️⃣ 🍄🌿 Albertus and I were thrilled to win the ProVeg Incubator Jury Award at last night's Demo Day from Peter (Green Generation Fund), Lena (Astanor Ventures), Nicolaus (FoodLabs), Christian (Project A Ventures), and Mridul (European Circular Bioeconomy Fund (ECBF))! From start to finish, the ProVeg programme was immensely helpful in connecting us with foodtech mentors, corporates, and investors across Europe, and we are so grateful for all the support. Huge thanks to the whole ProVeg team, especially Divya, Antje, Hédi, Yasmine, Alexandra, and Prakrit for making us feel so warm and welcome this week in the cold of Berlin 🥶 Special shout-out to our fellow cohort members and new friends at POSEIDONA, cellva, Livestock Laboratories, Food4You, Gimme Sabor (Guimarana Dream Food), ExSeed Ltd., and Marinas Bio; it was so much fun to finally meet in person after 12 weeks of late-night Zooms, and we can't wait to host you all in Singapore in the future!
