Asia Natural Gas & Energy Association
Oil and Gas
The voice of the gas industry in Asia. Supporting reliable, lower-carbon energy for Asia’s future.
About us
ANGEA is the voice of the gas industry in Asia, with a membership that spans the full global value chain: from production, to transport, infrastructure, manufacturing, end users, and others. Our purpose is to work constructively with governments, society and industry throughout Asia, to build effective and integrated energy policies that meet each country’s climate objectives while promoting national and regional economic sustainable growth. This includes the ability of nations to access natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuels that provide energy security and which will support Asia’s transition away from high-emitting coal.

This kind of collaboration between countries will be critical to the success of the energy transition in Asia. It's increasingly clear that Asia's future will involve large-scale CO2 transactions across borders, in addition to trade of energy. The establishment of cross-border CCS value chains is central to a major policy project being undertaken by ANGEA members - which will design a whole-of-region framework to guide bilateral and commercial agreements. India's largest gas-pipeline utility, GAIL (India) Limited, is hopeful of securing a new LNG deal of at least 10 years by the end of 2024. Gail expects that its LNG demand will at least double by 2030, in a pointer towards strong growth in use by Indian industry and an increasing role in power generation. #lng #naturalgas #energysecurity #energytransition

Good to see Singapore continuing to explore development of carbon capture and storage (CCS) as part of its long-term decarbonisation plans. The country's Energy Market Authority (EMA) will co-fund CCS feasibility studies proposed by power generation companies and energy firms, with a focus on two pathways - post-combustion carbon capture for combined-cycle gas turbines and pre-combustion carbon capture to produce hydrogen for power generation. #carboncapture #ccs #decarbonisation #energytransition #decarbonization

ANGEA Senior Advisor Neil Theobald takes a wide-ranging look at COP29, in the latest edition of The Energy Diary. Conversations about finance will be at the top of the agenda - from funding climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives, to conversations about compensatory measures and questions about the cost of renewable energy rollouts in both developed and emerging economies. In addition to the very significant contributions it makes to energy security and decarbonisation of power generation in Asia, US LNG exports are also vital for job creation and community investment at home. Research by the National Association of Manufacturers - NAM has found that total jobs supported throughout the US economy by the country's LNG industry could grow to 900,0000 by 2044, with associated tax and royalty contributions of as much as $47 billion available to benefit communities. Certainty around the policy environment for future LNG export production is critical at both ends of the US-Asia energy trading relationship. "For too long, [natural gas] was seen as a temporary bridge. Today, I stand before you to say gas is not just a bridge—it is a destination." Strong and relevant words from IEF - International Energy Forum Secretary-General Joe McMonigle at Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW). Natural gas will be an essential part of energy systems around the world for decades to come, as a much lower-emission alternative to coal for power generation and a feedstock for producing low-carbon hydrogen. #naturalgas #energytransition #lng #energysecurity #decarbonisation #decarbonization
