The role of AI in news, media and journalism AsiaOne is honoured to be part of the panel for the academic symposium Journalism in the Age of AI organised by Nanyang Technological University's Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information on Oct 18. During the session, the panellists shared how their organisations make use of gen AI, along with their main takeaways from having dabbled with the nascent technology. Veteran American journalist and Pulitzer Prize honouree George Anders spoke about his own experiences and trials exploring gen AI, offering a snapshot of which AI model is best suited for each step of the news creation process. Mediacorp Pte Ltd's Chin Hon Chua (Lead, AI Strategy and Solutions) and Lianhe Zaobao 联合早报 Yiting Ang (Associate Editor) shared their thoughts on guardrails and important dos and don'ts when using AI tools. The final panellist of the symposium, our Edmund C. (Head, Consumer Insights and Analytics Group), emphasised the importance of incorporating AI in every step of an organisation's value chain, beyond just content creation. The symposium ended with a fruitful Q&A session with the future journalism practitioners diving deep into the subject of AI. Many thanks to the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information team (Sherwin Chua, PhD ; Edson Tandoc) who put together the symposium, the panellists who came to offer their expertise, and the audience who made it possible.
