I'm an ex-lawyer who gave up my career to...build video games. And guess what else I did to pursue this? - took a ~75% pay cut - sold my place to manage finances - delayed plans to have more children It's always nice to hear someone pursue their dreams. But there are real sacrifices with pursuing your dreams. Hard sacrifices. Like spending less time with the family/children, the mental stress of bottom-line, etc. Things that, actually really matter to me. But for this season, I am convinced in my heart that this is where I want to be, and where I need to be for now. Religion aside, it is beyond clear to me that the future is moving towards this: 1. The Walt Disney Company invested 1.5b into Fortnite 2. Roblox creators earned a record $741m in 2023 3. Mediatonic Games (fall guys), Tencent Games (dreamstar), NetEase Games (eggy party) are all pursuing UGC (creator-driven) game modes. We are starting from the ground-up, and I'll be sharing about my journey building Avium to be the top, creator-first UGC gaming studio in Asia. If you're interested to hear more, want to build in this space, or is a brand looking to explore the possibilities of this, please connect and drop me a dm. Some stats on our recent map (penguin Tycoon): - 100k lifetime plays - 96k unique players - 1hr avg playtime. For friends, family and followers - thank you for supporting my journey. There is a bigger purpose I want to build for; to uplift the creator economy in Asia, to allow people to earn a decent income pursuing what they love; and to enable the passion to create damn fun games. That is a post for another time, but it is real to me, because, it is exactly my story. Coming back full circle to doing what I want to do.

I've never really shared this before, but 16 years ago, I took a course in 3d animation learning Maya (IMDA had a fantastic grant then to use). I started before I enrolled into law school, and my final project was due for submission during the exam period of my first semester. I remember not sleeping for 5 days, rendering the project, correcting mistakes, at the same time rushing and studying for exams, and sleeping in 20 minute sprints. It was one of the most tiring weeks of my life. I never thought myself as being artistically inclined (I really am not), and clearly the video speaks for itself in that manner! I barely passed the course, although I also suspect that the instructor passed me out of pity and effort. In a funny circle of life, I'm jumping back into (the pits of) 3D again, but this time, learning and experimenting with Epic Games' Unreal Engine for Fortnite. User-generated content platforms will be the future as more platforms fight for attention, and we can already see so many brands and companies experimenting with it - Walmart, BMW Group, and even Singapore's very own Changi Airport Group. It's a far cry from legal practice, but, you never know when skills you pick up become (even slightly) relevant. There's a future in the creator economy, producing the relevant content, and understanding how consumer behaviour is going to be shaped by online communities, and I know this is definitely the right direction. Technology has also advanced so much, with 3d software and capability improving leaps and bounds. It's exciting to come back to this scene as Avium tries to push into the gaming scene. I guess back then I was 16 years a bit too early - but it's never too early, or too late, to pivot and try something new.
