The strongest sales outlook for January is for electromechanical/connector products, which are expected to score 125.7 points, a sharp increase of 27.9 points from December. The outlook index for semiconductor products was 110.3 points in January, only recovering to the level of November 2024, and plummeted to 96.6 points in December. The passive component index is forecast to be 109.6 in January based on the December index. The outlook for end markets is brighter in January, with an overall forecast of 125.0. The Avionics/Military/Space and Industrial Electronics markets lead the way with January forecast scores of 145.8 and 135.6, respectively, with all but one market expected to be above 100 in January. Only the Consumer Electronics market fell below 97.8 in the January forecast. Ironically, January started with the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and the early sentiment was quite positive. Shipments of the three major categories (basic wristbands, basic watches, and smartwatches) increased compared to the same period last year. Driven by the recently released Xiaomi Mi Band 9 and Samsung Galaxy Fit3, the basic wristband market returned to growth for the first time since the third quarter of 2020, with a 7% increase compared to the third quarter of 2023, with shipments of 10.4 million units. As demand in the Indian market slowed, the basic watch market began to stabilize, with a year-on-year increase of 3% and shipments of 23.9 million units.
