How does who we are shape the way we approach high performance and mental health? Yesterday at THIS CAN HAPPEN APAC, I had the privilege of discussing this deeply personal topic with Nina Devouge, founder of ELLEUMINATE. As the youngest and only girl in a patriarchal family, I always felt the need to prove myself. Growing up in Singapore, a society rooted in meritocracy, hard work is seen as the path to success. I carried this mindset into my career—constantly striving to be a top performer, win awards, climb the ladder, and take on more responsibilities. Eventually, though, the pressure to be ‘always on’ led to burnout. Motherhood brought even more complexity, especially as an Asian female leader in a Western corporate environment. I remember replying to work messages right after delivering my second child and balancing 16-hour workdays with breastfeeding. On the outside, it seemed like I had it all together, but I was struggling inside. I wasn’t alone. 4 in 5 employees in Asia face moderate to high mental health risks, yet only 1 in 5 feel supported by their employers. The pressure to perform often leads to burnout, chronic stress, and anxiety. Starting Brewer three years ago gave me the opportunity to rethink what high performance really means. Success, I've learned, is like a marathon—it’s about pacing yourself and balancing ambition with self-care. 👉Here are some key takeaways from our session: 1️⃣ High performance means different things to everyone: Align your goals with your values. Success is personal—are you chasing what truly matters to you? 2️⃣ Optimise performance: Maximise what you can achieve without sacrificing your wellbeing. How can you optimise your performance without overextending yourself? 3️⃣ Set boundaries: Protecting your mental health starts with defining your limits. Are you taking enough time for yourself? 4️⃣ You can’t have it all: When you say yes to something, you’re saying no to something else. What are you prioritising? 5️⃣ As our lives and identities evolve, so do our definitions of high performance. Are you re-evaluating what success means at different stages of your life? 6️⃣ Support high performers: Organisations can do more to support the mental wellbeing of high performers, who often put more pressure on themselves to excel. Are we giving them the care they need? How has your identify shaped your understanding of #highperformance and #mentalhealth? Big thanks to Nina for your powerful insights and the amazing This Can Happen team including Zoe Sinclair, Jamie Golunski, Caroline Carr for organising such an impactful conference. Looking forward to 2025!

Yesterday, on World Mental Health Day 2024, Telum Media highlighted the crucial role of communicators on supporting the mental health dialogue, and our founder, Serina Tan, was honoured to be part of this important conversation. While World Mental Health Day has passed, the need for ongoing action remains. At Brewer, we’re committed to fostering a work culture that prioritises mental wellbeing every day, not just once a year. #WorldMentalHealthDay

World Mental Health Day 2024, observed today on 10th October, spotlights mental health at work. According to the WHO, poor working conditions harm not only individuals but also the overall work and society - depression and anxiety alone result in the loss of approximately 12 billion workdays each year. To examine the role that communicators play in this issue, Telum Media caught up with a selection of communicators and mental health champions to discuss mental health in the workplace. Thank you Megan Lam (KELY Support Group), Serina Tan (Brewer) and Wei Wen Lim 林玮雯 (Gentari) for sharing your thoughts. We were honoured to lead the "Stronger Together: Enhancing Relationships and Managing Conflict" workshop. A huge thanks to PRCA APAC for having us! Strong business relationships lead to better outcomes and well-being. Here are some key insights from our session: • Self-reflection: It all starts with you. Consider how your self-relationship impacts your interactions with others. What changes could improve these dynamics? • Gratitude: Take a moment each day to appreciate a colleague or team member. It makes a difference. • Unspoken Communication: The most crucial part of communication is often what isn’t verbally expressed—our behaviors are shaped by underlying values, experiences, and beliefs. • Proactive Engagement: You have the power to shape and co-create your relationships. Choose how you engage proactively. May these insights inspire you to strengthen your workplace connections and navigate conflicts more effectively. #relationships #managingconflict #strongertogether

We encourage everyone to take a moment to read and reflect on how we can support one another, one conversation at a time. 🩸 MPN Awareness Day: Early Detection Saves Lives Today, on MPN Awareness Day, we stand with PharmaEssentia to spotlight Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs), including Polycythaemia Vera (PV)—a rare blood cancer that often goes undetected. Early detection through simple blood tests, like a full blood count, can help prevent severe complications such as strokes and heart attacks. Brewer proudly supports the launch of BESREMi® (ropeginterferon alfa-2b) in Singapore, the first and only treatment approved by Singapore's Health Sciences Authority for adults with PV, regardless of treatment history. 🩺 Get tested: if you or someone you know has unexplained symptoms like fatigue or headaches, early diagnosis can make all the difference. 👉 More info: https://t.ly/BTKPx #MPNAwarenessDay #PharmaEssentia #PolycythaemiaVera #BloodCancerAwareness
