Our latest study led by Dr. Anna Szücs and Prof. Andrea B. Maier, featured on Psychreg, uncovers a surprising link between #conscientiousness and increased #suicide risk in older adults. Published in Comprehensive Psychiatry, the research found that high conscientiousness may paradoxically raise suicide risk, especially when combined with #depression and #illness. This underscores the need for nuanced mental health assessments. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e65Nq4BP

Transforming the way we age: A Healthier Future
About us
Centre for Healthy Longevity (CHL), based in Singapore, brings together scientists and clinicians to investigate the multifaceted aspects of ageing. Our mission is to add healthy years of life by delaying ageing, prolonging disease-free life and maintaining high functionality. We synergise basic and clinical science to develop biomarkers for measuring ageing, to test interventions that slow down ageing, and to create personalized implementation strategies that extend healthy life expectancy in Singapore and worldwide. Centre for Healthy Longevity is supported by National University of Singapore (NUS) and National University Health Systems (NUHS). At NUS, we are part of the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme of Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The programme aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the biology of ageing by identifying and manipulating common pathways that modulate ageing in vitro and in vivo, and then to seek methods for translation to humans. At NUHS, we are one of the six Centres of Excellence dedicated to advance breakthroughs in innovation, create new models of care, and forge collaborative partnership with the community, to improve the quality of life for Singaporeans.

Exciting research from Prof. Andrea B. Maier and our team is now out! We delve into the cutting-edge role of #lipids in #ageing and how lipidomics might be the key to unlocking healthier, longer lives. Our review explores how lipid profiles could serve as #biomarkers of healthy ageing and even lead to the development of a "lipid clock" to predict future health outcomes. This breakthrough could revolutionize precision medicine and boost healthy #longevity. Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/es24uyBg NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine

Check out the new research from Prof.Andrea B. Maier's team! Our latest #systematic #review and #meta-analysis revealed that #protein #supplementation boosts #muscle mass in community-dwelling older adults. Surprisingly, the effect is consistent regardless of the dose, frequency, or timing of the supplementation. Key takeaways: - Protein supplementation boosts muscle mass, especially in those living independently. - The effectiveness of protein supplementation in boosting muscle mass is not significantly influenced by the dose (≥30g vs. <30g/day), frequency (once, twice, three times/day), or timing (breakfast, all meals, etc.) of intake. - Data on hospitalised and institutionalised older adults remains limited, highlighting the need for further research. We are excited to share our latest research article from @Anna Szücs and Prof. Andrea B. Maier. The research reveals that high #conscientiousness in middle-aged and older adults, typically linked to better health, may also increase the likelihood and severity of suicidal behavior, particularly among those struggling with depression. Interestingly, this association diminishes in those with severe physical illness, suggesting that conscientiousness might influence suicide risk differently based on health status. Shaping the #future of #health needs innovative #ideas and proper #execution. We are so happy to have moved into our new 'home' where all group members can work together in one space, interact, and 'incubate'. We will have an 'ideas wall', a long table for group work and good coffee (that's on my list to provide ;). Fantastic team, go for it! I would like to thank dean prof Yap-Seng CHONG and prof Wee Joo Chng for their opportunity to create the workspace and help establishing the evidence-based field of #healthy #longevity. Kudos to Louis Island and Cordelia Tan to make this work! NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity

Exciting Research Update! Our latest systematic review explores the promising potential of #Urolithin A (UA), a gut metabolite derived from ellagic acid, in promoting #healthy #aging. Involving 250 healthy participants, the studies showed that UA supplementation (10–1000 mg/day for 28 days to 4 months) had several notable effects: - Dose-dependent anti-inflammatory effects - Upregulation of mitochondrial genes and markers of autophagy - Increased muscle strength and endurance While it didn't impact mitochondrial ATP production or gut microbiota, UA showed promising results without serious side effects.
