🎉 CIX is pleased to announce that we’ve successfully facilitated our first-ever trade of Puro.earth CO2 Removal Certificates (CORCs)!   The transaction between Alcom and Standard Chartered involved vintage 2023 CORCs from Alcom’s NuevaChar facility in the Philippines, where rice husks are utilised as feedstock for biochar production. #Biochar is one of the most advanced technology-based carbon removal methods on the planet.   According to the IPCC, carbon removals are essential in all pathways limiting global warming to 1.5°C. Biochar alone could help remove a staggering 1.1 to 3.3GtCO2e per year by 2030.   Founder & CEO at Alcom, Prateek Tiwari, said “This inaugural Biochar credits deal between Alcom and Standard Chartered – using Climate Impact X’s Clear platform has truly put Singapore on the carbon removals world map. Standard Chartered is at the forefront of banking sector engagement in the removals space and we would like to especially thank them for supporting CDR projects in Southeast Asia. We are ramping up our Biochar production activities in the region and look forward to many such transactions in the near future”.   Head of Carbon Markets Development at Standard Chartered, Chris Leeds, added, “We’re delighted to have worked with Alcom and Climate Impact X (CIX) to execute this purchase of high-quality carbon removal (CDR) credits using CIX’s clearing platform. Alcom has been issued CDRs under the Puro biochar methodology for the NuevaChar facility in the Philippines, which Standard Chartered has purchased via CIX’s clearing platform. Standard Chartered is pleased to support this first for CIX, which demonstrates our continued support for the developing CDR market and our commitment to global net zero.”.   With over 1,000 onboarded counterparties globally, CIX Clear expands your access to a deeper pool of buyers and suppliers, while safeguarding counterparty anonymity and minimising risks associated with payment defaults or non-delivery. We accept all valid credits from most international carbon and REC standards, offering one of the most comprehensive post-transaction settlement services in the market today.   For more information on how to use our services, contact us at exchange@climateimpactx.com! 💡 Did you know that this year’s International Day of Rural Women is themed “Rural Women Sustaining Nature for Our Collective Future"?   According to the United Nations, rural women, particularly indigenous women, are disproportionally affected by climate change. Their dependence on agriculture, marginalised living conditions and exposure to environmental degradation – such as biodiversity loss and pollution – make them highly vulnerable. In many developing countries, women spend up to 20 hours a week gathering firewood for cooking, facing toxic smoke, health risks and time poverty. Traditional cooking methods not only harm human health and impact quality of life but also contribute significantly to deforestation and global emissions. Without swift action to scale up investment in improved cookstove projects, we risk falling short of the goal of achieving universal access to clean cooking by 2030. Improved cookstoves directly support 10 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). CIX Cookstoves X (CCX) offers a series of standardised contracts for improved cookstoves, focusing on projects in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Developing Countries. Verified by Gold Standard or Verra, these projects have gained healthy market traction with an 86% year-on-year increase in retirements. In the first half of 2024, CCX-eligible projects accounted for 78% of all energy efficiency project retirements, further validating their importance in achieving sustainable development. Want to be part of the solution? Learn more about our standardised contracts by reaching out at exchange@climateimpactx.com. #improvedcookstoves #internationaldayofruralwomen #sustainability #climatechange

#ICYMI Last month at the IETA North America Climate Summit in New York, we hosted a dynamic panel on “The science of VCM pricing and implications for market standardisation”. Moderated by our Head of Intelligence, Julien Hall, the session featured insights from industry leaders such as Ana Haurie from Respira International, Hugh McAlpine from GS Environmental and Joshua McCarron from Everland .     📨 A key takeaway was that the VCM would likely struggle to be represented by a single price and that each credit type has its own market dynamics and idiosyncratic price drivers.  For example, vintage affects some parts of the market far more than others. In the improved cookstoves market specifically, carbon crediting standards and project locations account for up to 25% of price variation.   With increasing government guidance and regulatory pressure for market-wide price transparency, the need for real and detailed pricing data has never been more crucial. CIX is proud to be at the forefront of efforts to bring price transparency to the VCM, helping reduce information asymmetry and bring about a fairer and better-functioning market.   Launched earlier in Q3, CIX’s VCM Trade Database addresses this gap by offering a new level of visibility into trading, price and liquidity patterns. As the most comprehensive and transparent repository of actual, disaggregated VCM trade data with thousands of project-level-specific transactional data points, it empowers market participants to make informed decisions with greater confidence.   Stay abreast of the latest VCM spot pricing trends with CIX Intelligence.
