On 3 February, electric passenger trains departed from Pukekohe Station for the first time, marking a significant milestone. After two and a half years of closure, the station has reopened, reconnecting the local community to Auckland’s rail network. This marks the full electrification of the Southern Line on Auckland One Rail's network . Along with Auckland One Rail and UGL, we welcomed this milestone, which allows passengers to travel seamlessly from Pukekohe to the heart of Auckland without changing trains. The introduction of electric trains on this route is a significant step toward reducing emissions and creating a more sustainable future for public transport in Auckland. 🪴⚡
History was made this morning when the FIRST EVER electric passenger train departed from Pukekohe Station at 05:11, travelling to Waitematā (Britomart). Onboard crew were driver Dion Lynch and train manager Cameron. Also taking the historic trip were local Franklin Ward Councillor Andrew (Andy) Baker, AOR CEO Martin Kearney and COO Gavin Panter FCIRO FCILT (not pictured). Meanwhile, other members of the senior leadership team Lisa D'Oliveira, Louise Pengelly and Gary Ryan travelled in the opposite direction, taking the first train at 05:30 from Waitematā (Britomart) Station, to Pukekohe. They spent time at Pukekohe welcoming customers back to their local community station after a 2.5 year break while works to electrify the Pukekohe to Papakura train track were completed. It was an exciting day for AOR teams and our customers, who are very happy to have access to their local station again! #earlymorning #metrorail #pukekohe #community

ComfortDelGro, in partnership with Pony.ai, has launched its first robotaxi pilot programme in Guangzhou, China—signifying a significant milestone in the commercial deployment of robotaxi services for both companies. This follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in July 2024 at the 14th Singapore-Guangdong Collaboration Council meeting. The two-year pilot will enable ComfortDelGro to develop and refine capabilities for autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, operations, and fleet management, paving the way for large-scale deployment in China and other international markets. ComfortDelGro Managing Director/Group CEO, Mr Siak Kian Cheng, said: “The development of autonomous vehicle technology is crucial in future-proofing the transport industry. With continuing driver shortages a global issue, we are exploring innovative solutions to ensure mobility remains accessible and efficient. Autonomous technology can complement the human driver workforce by increasing ride availability during off peak hours and in underserved areas. This pilot will allow us to build operational capabilities in robotaxis, and a step closer to wider future deployment.” This marks another step forward in our journey to develop future-ready transport solutions. Exciting times ahead as we shape the future of urban mobility! #ComfortDelGro #AutonomousMobility #Robotaxi #Innovation
