  • “Don’t be afraid to take a detour here and there. There’s no one set path in your creative journey,” says Rachel Poonsiriwong, recipient of the DesignSingapore Scholarship in 2017, sharing from experience. During a gap year, Rachel explored careers in art curation and theatre production before finding her calling in design. She also had a firsthand experience in using design to make a meaningful impact on the world when she took part in a hackathon that challenged participants to design for persons with disabilities. These experiences opened her eyes to design’s potential to solve complex societal issues and led her to choosing design as a professional career. The DesignSingapore Scholarship empowered Rachel to pursue Interaction Design at the California College of the Arts. She is now a product manager and designer at Terrascope, a climate tech startup helping companies reduce their carbon footprint. Have the passion to make a difference too? Discover how the DesignSingapore Scholarship can help you join the ranks of scholars like Rachel in championing a better tomorrow through design. Applications open till 4 April 2025! Find out more or apply at bit.ly/dsg-scholarship. This video was first published in the BrightSparks e-Magazine in October 2024. It cultivates the next generation of talents, who may serve their bond in any Singapore-registered company of their choice, and opens doors to more rewarding careers and opportunities to advance the nation’s design industry.#DesignSingaporeCouncil #DsgScholarship #DesignEducation
