We were thrilled to participate in the 9th Developments in Ureteroscopic Stone Treatment (DUST) Symposium over the weekend! Our Thulio® laser and AXIS® II Family of Cystoscope and Ureteroscopes sparked strong interest at our hands-on skills lab, fueling engaging discussions. Special thanks to our panel of proctors — Dr. Kymora Scotland, Dr. Amelia Pietropaolo, Dr. Wissam Kamal, and Dr. Thomas Tailly — for generously sharing their expertise with enthusiastic attendees! Building on these valuable experiences, Dr. Wissam Kamal delivered a captivating presentation on optimizing Tm:YAG laser settings, while Dr. Thomas Tailly showcased the Thulio®’s capabilities in a semi-live case, demonstrating its power firsthand. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who connected with us! We look forward to continuing these meaningful conversations and exploring new ways to advance urology together.

Our portfolio company, Sonomotion Inc., continues to redefine urological innovation with Break Wave™ Lithotripsy (BWL)! Featured on the cover of the October issue of The Journal of Urology, the first-in-human trial, led by Dr. Ben H. Chew, confirms BWL as a safe and effective non-invasive treatment for kidney stones. The trial showed that 88% of patients experienced stone fragmentation, with 86% requiring minimal or no anesthesia. More impressively, follow-up CT scans revealed that 49% of patients were stone-free 14 days after treatment. “BWL has the potential to provide a safe, effective, and well-tolerated office-based procedure” noted Dr. Pei Zhong et al. in an editorial. “It may also benefit patients with asymptomatic intrarenal stones who would prefer treatment over observation.” Together with our portfolio companies, we are driving the future of urological care, delivering innovative solutions to improve patient outcomes. At the recent MedTech World Singapore Roadshow, I had the privilege of joining Daniel Ting, Dario Heymann, PhD and moderator Shwen Gwee for a panel on "The Crossover We Thought We Won't Need: Generative AI in MedTech" - exploring how this technology is reshaping healthcare in both unexpected and surprising ways. At Advanced MedTech, we're harnessing Gen AI across three key areas: digital community engagement, clinical therapeutics, and operational efficiencies. Our UroGPT™ platform for kidney stone patients exemplifies this approach, offering personalised, interactive conversations that engage patients whilst reducing urologists' follow-up workload. The key to successful Gen AI adoption in healthcare lies in addressing the most pressing challenges in patient journeys and clinical workflows. This focus naturally drives adoption, benefiting both patients and physicians. We also tackled the evolving regulatory landscape. At Advanced MedTech, we've adopted an agile approach that prioritises patient safety and ethics. UroGPT™, for instance, is designed to complement, not replace, healthcare providers' expertise leveraging Gen AI to enhance patient care whilst alleviating the burden on healthcare providers. I'm grateful to Shwen, my fellow panelists and all the event attendees for their valuable insights. This experience reinforces my belief that we're entering a new era in healthcare – one where technology and human expertise can work in harmony to deliver better outcomes for our patients. #MedTechWorld #GenerativeAI #HealthcareInnovation #AIinHealthcare

At Dornier, our leadership in urological innovation extends through the transformative work of our portfolio companies, including Sonomotion Inc.. We are proud to share that Sonomotion Inc.’s ultrasonic propulsion technology was recently highlighted in the “Best Paper on Stone Disease” at #WCET2024, and featured by the Urology Times. A University of Washington study led by Mathew D. Sorensen and Jonathan D. Harper, funded by the NIH, revealed that patients with stone fragments ≤ 5mm treated with ultrasonic propulsion experienced a 70% lower relapse rate, with the average time to relapse extended by 521 days. Remarkably, 63% of treated patients passed fragments within 3 weeks, compared to just 5% in the control group. This breakthrough underscores our commitment to advancing urological care and improving patient outcomes worldwide.
