Leadership for What's Next

About us

Leaders are the greatest levers for winning in an unpredictable world. They create the conditions for success with customers, employees, stakeholders and society. Duke CE's purpose is to help these leaders get ready for what’s next in the midst of uncertainty. We primarily do this through our custom leadership programs, consistently ranked at the top by the Financial Times and Business Week. Previous experiences, right answers and new content are insufficient in addressing today’s challenges. In some instances, these may actually be counter-productive. Leaders need to have the capacity to understand context and how things work systematically. To do this effectively requires more than simply closing knowledge gaps. It requires a more fundamental reorientation and re-wiring to be successful.

In today’s world of business, the only consistency is inconsistency, where the most adept leaders will be able to navigate this increasingly complex landscape. Leaders find themselves trapped between the old and the new. Overlapping global crises demand that we break free to shape a better future.  Our CEO Sharmla Chetty and President of Global Markets, Vishal Patel explore how organizations and their leaders can build the courage and capabilities to act on the signals of our new world.  To read their article, and many more, download our free Dialogue issue here: https://lnkd.in/e-rAHxQe

As we reflect on the past four years of our Women’s Month event, the purpose remains clear: to amplify women's voices and create real, lasting change. My journey as a young activist taught me that while passion ignites movement, education and persistence secure a seat at the table. This platform was born from that belief, but Women’s Month is not just about celebration—it’s a call to action. According to S&P’s Global Broad Market Index, women hold only 5% of CEO roles, and though progress is being made, it is not fast enough. As AI reshapes our world, now is the time for us to ensure that women are not just participants but leaders in this transformation. The insights we’ve gained—on AI’s potential to reduce bias and the need to support young women in STEM—are not mere discussions. They must become commitments to action. Gender equality is not a once-a-year conversation. It demands our daily, intentional efforts—whether in our homes, workplaces, or communities. Empowering women benefits us all, but it requires consistent focus and resolve. While Women’s Month has drawn to a close, I challenge each of us to keep the momentum alive. Let us turn reflection into action and build a future where women lead, innovate, and thrive daily.

Today we were delighted to welcome Mastercard's Chief People Officer, Michael Fraccaro, in an inspirational fireside chat: “Envisioning 2030: How AI Redefines Our World,” discussing the transformative potential of artificial intelligence to reshape the future and its important intersection with inclusion. Our CEO, Sharmla Chetty, said: “It is wonderful to have Michael and Mastercard here with us in South Africa at this event, given their purpose and commitment to inclusion for all.” Michael discussed the intersection of two AIs – artificial intelligence and advancing inclusion. Mastercard is committed to bringing people and technology together to drive progress, through key initiatives like AI for Social Good and Girls4Tech, their STEM education program that has touched over 7 million girls globally. This inspiring initiative creates curiosity in STEM topics to help build lifelong connections to the fields. Fraccaro commented “We saw a gap in women engineers and knew we needed to start creating opportunities at a young age.” #WomensMonthSA #HumanizingLeadership

Our event today is for the people of tomorrow. One such person is Jophiel Summer, a local student councillor. Jophiel kickstarted our event – “Humanizing Leadership in the AI World" – with a plea. A plea that we keep her generation, and future generations, at the heart of the decisions we make today. Jophiel spoke beautifully and gave attendees pause for thought on how her generation - Gen Alpha – can provide valuable insight to the multi-generational leaders in attendance today. #WomensMonthSA International Women’s Forum of South Africa African Women Chartered Accountants (AWCA)

In 2023 female leaders from DANONE SOUTHERN AFRICA attended the Duke Corporate Education women's event and this year we are proud to have one of our very own leaders Thandeka Ngqumeya on stage providing insights in to the fascinating and relevant topic of AI. Thandeka will share her knowledge about the relationship between Marketing and AI and whilst AI has step changed the way we collect data there still needs to be a human interpretation. AI allows us to provide an understanding of what our consumers are listening to, and what goes into a grocery basket, their frequency of purchase, their switching into and out of products, how they respond to advertising messages, we must appreciate and acknowledge the psyche that drives the action. #womensmonth #womenempowerment #womenupliftingwomen
