I have written, taught and spoken extensively about interdisciplinary thinking. But here's a visionary project that embodies it. Earth 300 is set to be the world's first ship to hold a molten-salt reactor, a quantum computer, and a "science-sphere" dedicated to 22 labs with specialists from various disciplines working together towards a common complex problem: our planetary crisis. Who else is thinking about climate change in this systemic, multidimensional, integrative, futuristic way? That's why its launch in 2021 made it a global sensation, being covered by the likes of Bloomberg, Forbes, Businessweek, BBC, CNN, Architectural Digest and GQ Magazine, with media presence in over 70 countries. Since then, the initiative has played a key role in popularizing climate-friendly atomic energy solutions, developing a ground-breaking sustainability awareness program and building a coalition of key global organizations in maritime, shipbuilding, sustainability and technology. Will the ship ever be built? Absolutely. But even if it isn't, the existence of such a vision gives us a glimpse of what it will take to transform our approach to preserving our planet. At Earth 300 we believe that preserving our planet is an idea worth pursuing, for no other reason than because without it, humanity would not have a home. We have been focused on Earth's incredible biological intelligence and support the idea that Earth's flora and fauna are, in Buckminster Fuller's words, "the planets crew". Humans; simply its passengers, we are just passing by, exploring this grand atomic powered (sun = giant atomic reactor in the sky) spaceship (travelling through space at 67,000 mph). We have no known ecosystem function ourselves. It seems humanity is only here to enjoy the ride. We would therefore like to commend the work of Jonathan Ledgard, a British born novelist and an expert in advanced technology and nature who reported lead stories from 60 countries as a war correspondent for The The Economist.
