The epic female angel investor collective

About us

Epic Angels is democratizing angel investing. We make angel investing accessible. We give women the confidence to invest, by learning about the investment process, and understanding how other women invest. Epic Angels is a network of female executives and operators who have built and expanded companies in all parts of the world. We are the largest female-only angel network in Asia Pacific. Research shows, investors tend to back those they perceive as similar to them. Instead of trying to convince male investors to invest in women, we need to focus on increasing the percentage of female investors. We need to close the financial gender gap. Our focus is early-stage startups in APAC across all verticals. We invest in pre-seed, seed and series A rounds. Our ticket sizes range from 50K to 250K USD. We are strong advocates for female leadership, and invest in startups with at least one woman on the executive team. Most importantly, we invest in people. Founders who refuse to die and choose agility over ego.

We came seeking and we found… the amazing #women of #HongKong! In a three day whirlwind, we spoke with investors, startups, women on the top, women who bring other women to the top, government and corporates and other key network players. Here’s what we saw: 1️⃣🔥 It is a great time to be a woman leader in Hong Kong. Role models like Bonnie Y Chan, the first woman CEO of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Aveline San, Citi’s CEO for Hong Kong & Macau, and Joy Cheng, Head of Citi’s Commercial Bank in Hong Kong actively drive the way for women to leadership without necessarily compromising on having a family. In an intimate talk Aveline and Joy shared: > “Future leaders need to learn about #tech 🤖, have big ears (be good listeners), and thick skin (dare to challenge the status quo)”. > #wealthmanagement 💰 is more and more about the #neweconomy, in which tech entrepreneurs play a main part. 2️⃣🤝The many talented female business leaders #collaborate. There is this strong network of women who have each others back and lift each other up, ranging from getting board seats, to financial empowerment, to shining a light on one another. 3️⃣🌟Women of Hong Kong are experienced investors and wealth managers already, know how to invest in real estate and luxury goods. #startups as an asset class are the #nextbigthing. So, needless to say we are ridiculously excited to work with the women of Hong Kong!! Excited to provide easy access to engage with exciting #startups (lead by women), new #technologies, #innovation and #entrepreneurship and a global peer-community. Want to get involved? 👉Show your interest: https://lnkd.in/gkM8iCNS and join the 400+ other #EpicInvestors in 30 countries who shape the future of angel investing. In today’s episode of the #InvestorGlossary, let’s talk business. This episode is all about ROI or the #ReturnOnInvestment, and exit #multiples. ROI is a percentage that shows your profit compared to the initial investment. Multiples offer a simpler way to understand your returns – a 2x multiple means you got back twice what you invested. Imagine you invest $5,000 in a startup. A few years later, the startup exits and you earn $30,000. Your ROI would be (30,000 - 5,000) / 10,000 x 100% = 250%, which translates to a 2.5x multiple on your investment! Here is what to expect as an #angelinvestor: 📈On average, angel investors aim for an ROI of about 20-30% per year. However, since this is a high risk investment, some may yield massive returns, while others might result in 100% losses.  ⏰Patience is key. It typically takes about 5-7 years to see significant ROI from startup investments.  💰Diversify your investments across around 25 startups to reduce individual risk and increase your overall chances of success. The few big wins can offset the losses from the ones that don’t make it. Check out our next episode about the J-curve to understand how ROI on your portfolio typically evolves! In today’s episode of the #InvestorGlossary we talk about #GoToMarket or GTM. A lot of #startups have big goals but the plan to achieve them may not be as concrete. For instance, a startup might say they're going to use social media to reach millions of users. But it’s important to find out the specifics – which platforms, what kind of content, what budget, etc. A good GTM strategy typically involves three stages:  ✨Attract: How does the startup plan to acquire users? Through which channels? 🤝Engage: What tactics will they use to engage these potential customers? 🥳Delight: How will they convert and retain these customers, turning them into advocates? B2B vs B2C GTM strategies: ➡️B2B: Focuses on building relationships with key decision-makers, involving longer sales cycles, personalized marketing, and high-touch sales efforts. ➡️B2C: Targets individual consumers with shorter sales cycles and broader marketing efforts like social media marketing and influencer partnerships. The startup should have a clear budget, allocated resources, timeline, and milestones for the GTM. Ask the founder what they have tried, what has worked, and how they plan to iterate. By drilling down into these details, you'll get a clearer picture of the viability of a startup’s GTM strategy. Ready to put these tips to use? ➡️Join our ‘First steps towards angel investing’ webinar where we help you start your angel investor journey: https://lnkd.in/g-6qGeXk Enjoying our series? At Epic Angels, we’re always on the lookout for amazing early-stage #startups in APAC that have promising potential for future growth. While there are thousands of early-stage companies out there, we’re on the hunt for the very best for our #EpicInvestors– those few gems 💎 that have huge market potential and are truly disrupting their spaces.
