    GDS Indonesia signed a MoU with State Polytechnic of Batam (Polibatam) on August 15, to foster cooperation in education and the development of human resources within the data center industry in Batam. This partnership represents a step towards aligning educational programs with industry needs, equipping students and professionals with the skills required to excel in the rapidly evolving digital economy. The collaboration will focus on curriculum development, seminars, workshops, and internship programs tailored to industry demands, ensuring that the next generation of professionals is well-prepared for careers in the data center industry. Additionally, the partnership will include joint research initiatives, project-based learning opportunities, and specialized training and certification programs. The GDS NDP data center in Nongsa Digital Park, Batam—the first AI-ready data center in the region and expected to be operational within 2024—will be equipped with cutting-edge technology designed for AI purposes. This collaboration will offer real-time training and career growth opportunities through specialized programs, fostering a strong talent pipeline to meet the demands of the AI and data center industries. Given Batam's designation as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for the digital sector, this partnership will address critical human resource needs in the data center field. "This partnership with Politeknik Negeri Batam will help GDS International cultivate a highly skilled workforce from the young generation to meet the challenges of the future," said Jamie Khoo, CEO of GDS International. Our key areas of collaboration are: 🔋💧 Energy and Water Efficiency: We aim to reduce water usage and waste, implement energy-saving technologies, and promote environmentally friendly data center operations.     We are excited to announce that GDS NTP Campus 2 is now Malaysia’s first data center to feature large-scale AI deployment. In collaboration with a regional NCP partner, NTP Campus 2 has been providing AI computing power services since it became operational in July. The achievement was highlighted during a meeting with Johor state government officials, including Johor's Chief Minister YAB Dato' Onn Hafiz bin Ghazi, Johor State Executive Member and Chairman of the Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs, and Human Resources Committee YB Tuan Lee Ting Han, as well as representatives from Invest Johor and the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA). The official delivery of the 50 MW hyperscale data center campus, located in Nusajaya Tech Park, highlights GDS’s commitment to providing AI-ready and operational facilities for world leading tech companies to meet increasing AI demands. With a gross floor area of 46,700 m², GDS NTP Campus 2 consists of two buildings with fully diverse fiber coverage by telecom partners. The newly opened NTP5 is a state-of-the-art multi-tenant facility featuring a high-efficiency air cooling system, designed to support high rack densities for AI services. At the meeting, GDS Chairman William Huang and GDS International CEO Jamie Khoo emphasized how the company’s investment in Malaysia is driving growth across various sectors in the entire ecosystem, including construction, port activity, supply chain, employment, talent development, and the tech industry. Chief Minister YAB Dato' Onn Hafiz bin Ghazi acknowledged GDS’s role in enhancing Johor’s position on the global data center map and boosting international confidence in the market.     At today's Singapore Cloud and Datacenter Convention, which concludes the week-long SIJORI Week 2024, GDS SVP Jimmy Yu delivered a keynote speech to a room of 300+ attendees titled "Unleashing Digital Potential: Navigating the Data Centre Landscape in SIJORI." He highlighted GDS International's strategic initiatives and investments in the rapidly growing SIJORI region, which includes Singapore, Johor, and Batam. Highlighting the broader Southeast Asian market, Jimmy noted that the region has 150+ new data centers potentially adding 5,400+ MW of capacity in the future, according to reports. Jimmy also emphasized the critical role of regional connectivity and detailed the extensive network of undersea cables connecting the SIJORI region to the rest of the world.     GDS SVP International Business Jimmy Yu shared insightful perspectives at today's panel at the Johor Interconnect Forum on "Transforming and Adapting Telecom and Data Centers into the AI and Digital Age." Jimmy emphasized how our key markets in the SIJORI region successfully capture demand, with GDS’s fast speed to market being bolstered by support from the Malaysia federal and Johor governments, and from partners like Tenaga Nasional Berhad. Programs such as the Green Lane Pathway enable new data centers to obtain power in as little as 12 months. Panelists discussed the technical requirements and infrastructure needs for AI workloads, as well as the financial aspects of deploying AI-focused data centers. They also identified opportunities that AI infrastructure development presents for Malaysia, examined the competitive landscape, and addressed key challenges in developing AI infrastructure. With a pipeline of 1.2 GW underway in Malaysia, the data center industry is growing rapidly due to demand from AI, machine learning, e-commerce, and cloud computing. Malaysia is transforming into a data center powerhouse thanks to its strategic location, favorable government policies, proximity to Singapore, and attractively priced land, power, and water. However, over the years, significant improvements have been made in utilities, water, connectivity, and talent development through the joint efforts of players such as GDS and its partners. The panelists expressed optimism about Batam's growth, envisioning it as a major data center development hub in the region within the next few years. Another key focus was on the critical technological advancements necessary for enhancing data center operations.
