Do you know #Indonesia? Indonesia’s economy has demonstrated steady growth, with GDP expanding by 5.1% in 2023, and projections for 2024 remain optimistic. As Southeast Asia’s largest economy, Jakarta remains the central hub for both domestic and international business activities. Indonesia’s efforts to diversify beyond commodities, focusing on #infrastructure and #digitalisation, have been key drivers in sustaining this momentum. The #retail sector, in particular, has seen a surge, accounting for 12.5% of Indonesia’s GDP. The rise of the middle class, now comprising over 52 million people, has boosted domestic consumption, contributing to a retail boom. E-commerce continues to expand, but physical retail spaces remain highly relevant, driven by urbanisation and rising disposable incomes. This blend of traditional and digital retail channels offers significant potential for businesses seeking to capitalise on Indonesia's evolving consumer habits. Recent government initiatives, including the Omnibus Law and Investment Law, have made it easier for foreign businesses to invest, reducing bureaucratic hurdles and offering tax incentives in specific sectors. Infrastructure spending, with a 2024 budget of IDR 400 trillion, is expected to support urban growth and improve connectivity, potentially boosting domestic consumption and business expansion. The recent relocation of Indonesia’s capital from Jakarta to #Nusantara is expected to open up new opportunities in areas such as real estate, logistics, and infrastructure. Meanwhile, key industries like #mining, #agriculture, #healthcare, and trade remain strong, offering diverse prospects for foreign investors. With its close geographical ties and access to regional markets, Singaporean businesses may find Indonesia an attractive option for exploring the country’s changing economic landscape.
