Established in 1945, the UN plays a crucial role in addressing the world’s most pressing challenges, from conflict resolution to climate change. At GUILD, we’re proud to contribute to a more sustainable future by aligning our work with several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Here are some of our initiatives include: SDG 4: Quality Education: We’ve conducted workshops and provided mentorship to empower young people with prototyping and innovation skills. SDG 2 & SDG 13: No Hunger and Climate Action: From inventing a modular floating farm, to conducting futures design workshop and advocating for sustainable technology for good, we’ve developed sustainable solutions to tackle climate change. SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities: We’ve offered pro bono programs to underprivileged children, providing them with access to educational opportunities. As Rafflesians themselves, our mentors M. Ibnur Rashad (一诺) 🕊️ Social Technopreneur and Sustainability Inventor and Yi Han Tan were passionate about giving back to their alma mater and inspiring the next generation of innovators. Over the past nine months, they guided these talented students through the problem-solving process, helping them iterate their prototype four times to achieve their goals. Initially, many students excelled in theory but lacked prototyping skills. However, a simple exercise of creating a Floating Chinampa farm within an hour sparked their creativity and kickstarted their prototyping journey. This experience highlights the importance of hands-on learning and mentorship in fostering innovation and problem-solving skills. Even when climate technologies prove that they work, they often struggle to secure enough money to scale. This is what we call the 'missing middle'. While the term 'missing middle' might not be immediately clear, as you scroll through these comics, you'll get a better idea! Funding the climate solutions we need can be tricky, which is why there are so many conversations about ways to help bridge this financing gap.
