  • Unlike sci-fi movies, today’s robots can’t move fluidly or think like humans—yet. From ancient automatons to modern AI-driven machines, robotics has come a long way but still faces major challenges. Touch, mobility, and autonomy remain elusive. While humanoid assistants like in "I, Robot" are decades away, advancements in AI and automation are closing the gap. Could Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics become reality? 🤔 Dr. Daniel Teo, Director of our Robotics, Automation and Unmanned Systems Centre of Expertise, dives deep into the evolution, challenges, and future of robotics. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gaeC6AuJ #HTXsg #AI #Robotics #FutureTech

  • We celebrated International Women’s Day with a vibrant series of activities in the office. We kicked off the morning with a bazaar supporting women-led businesses while also giving back to charities that benefit women, children, and the elderly. From delicious cookies and treats to handcrafted goods and everyday essentials, we shopped for a cause, making every purchase more meaningful. Later in the afternoon, we had the privilege of hearing from three inspiring women leaders: Fanny Koh, Deputy Director, Operations Department at the Singapore Police Force; Karen Lee, Director, Rehabilitation and Reintegration Division at the Singapore Prison Service; and Hazel Chua, Director, Training and Programme Management at HTX. They shared their experiences and insights on navigating challenges in the areas of Covid-19 response, transformation, and leadership, leaving us with valuable lessons on resilience and growth. 🩷 Read about HTX’s girl power here: https://lnkd.in/gw2vF8KZ #HTXsg #IWD2025

  • 🏆 We’re proud to have the Operations Terrain Mapping 2 (OTM2) project recognised at the Esri Singapore GeoInnovation Awards. Developed by our Civil Defence Programme Management Centre and xData teams in collaboration with Singapore Civil Defence Force and NCS Group, this development marks a significant step forward in harnessing geospatial technology for public safety. OTM2 leverages real-time geoanalytics to enhance situational awareness and emergency response through cutting-edge Geographic Information System technology. By digitising terrain and risk data, as well as integration with other operational systems, firefighters can get a comprehensive real-time common picture and insights that will enhance operational effectiveness. 🔗 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gKtipXDN #HTXsg #SCDF #GeoInnovationAwards #GeospatialTech #EmergencyResponse #TechForGood

  • Our scientists from the Human Factors & Simulation Centre of Expertise collaborated with the Singapore Civil Defence Force, Nanyang Technological University Singapore, and University of Kentucky on an evidence-based research study on the work-rest cycle of SCDF frontliners to enhance training and operations. #HTXsg #HFS #Research

[Evidence-based research study on firefighter performance during simulated operations]   The Responder Performance Centre (RPC) at the SCDF’s Civil Defence Academy (CDA) has embarked on a research study on the performance of firefighters during simulated operations. This research study was made possible with the collaboration between SCDF, University of Kentucky, Nanyang Technological University and HTX (Home Team Science & Technology Agency). The research study was held at the Emergency Responders’ Fitness Conditioning and Enhancement Lab (EXCEL) in CDA, an integrated research and development and training facility with five specialised labs.   For this research study, firefighters simulated a response to a high-rise unit fire scenario, performing tasks such as vertical climb, hose-carry, casualty evacuation and movement in a confined smoke and darkness chamber. As the firefighters performed the various tasks, the research team which comprises RPC officers, scientists from HTX, and the University of Kentucky collected their physiological and cognitive data through a series of functional tests. The research team will be analysing the data to provide evidence-based insights on the work-rest cycle of SCDF frontliners. Through these findings, the performance and safety in SCDF’s training and operations will be enhanced.   Dr. Mark Abel, Director of the University of Kentucky’s First Responder Research Laboratory, was at CDA in January this year observing the trials and provided guidance to SCDF firefighters as they participated in the evidence-based research study. Dr. Abel is the first Senior Fellow to be appointed under SCDF’s Senior Fellowship Programme. Dr. Abel’s research interests include the safety, health, and occupational readiness of firefighters and law enforcement officers. Dr. Mark Abel also received the US National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Tactical Strength and Conditioning Practitioner of the Year Award, for his contributions to the teaching and application of tactical strength training and conditioning.   SCDF is pleased to collaborate with Dr. Abel, Dr. Ryan Mason (University of Kentucky), Dr. Veni Kong from NTU and our partners from the HTX on this research study. This programme will pave the way for future collaborations with SCDF’s partners and Institutes of Higher Learning, both at the local and international levels.

  • We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CIVIPOL, the technical cooperation partner of the French Ministry of the Interior, on February 13, 2025. The MoU reaffirms and strengthens our partnership to rebrand the successful Milipol Asia-Pacific and TechX Summit (MAP-TXS) in 2024 to Milipol TechX Summit (MTX) to promote greater synergy for an integrated event. The biannual MTX in 2026 creates a global platform for industries to showcase homeland security innovations, while bringing agencies and individuals together to collaborate on solutions to tackle security challenges. Chief Executive Officer at HTX (Home Team Science & Technology Agency)

Last year’s inaugural Milipol Asia Pacific -Tech X Summit (MAP-TXS) co-organized by HTX and Civipol exceeded all expectations, with participation of close to 12,000 trade visitors for the MAP Exhibition and 2,500 delegates for the TXS Conference, spanning 75 countries. This smashed previous editions’ attendance records and, in the process, generated dialogue, cross-fertilised ideas, and fostered collaboration. The success of this platform we’ve created together is a testament to shared values and the strong partnership that has grown over the years between the 2 organizations. I am therefore delighted to renew HTX’s partnership with CIVIPOL until 2030 and together with Prefet Yann Jounot, the Chief Executive Officer of CIVIPOL , relaunch MAP-TXS under a new brand that will bring about even deeper synergy and integration: Milipol Tech X (MTX) MTX 2026 will be held from 28-30 April at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Singapore. Our goal is to create a platform where innovation drives public safety and security advancements. MTX will further strengthen Singapore-France relations and catalyze collaboration in the international homeland security space. Thank you to exhibitors, partners, friends and colleagues who helped make MAP-TXS 2024 a success. We have an exciting and ambitious programme lined up for MTX 26 - see you there! #MTX2026 #MAPTXS2024 #HomelandSecurity #HTXsg #HTSciencenTech
