Call for Participation! The ASEAN Studies Centre at ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute is pleased to invite you to participate in the annual 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮: 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆. Now in its seventh iteration, the Survey seeks to understand the perceptions of Southeast Asians on regional affairs, ASEAN’s engagements with its Dialogue Partners, and issues affecting ASEAN. Available in English, Bahasa Indonesia, Burmese, Khmer, Thai, and Vietnamese, the survey will take about 30 minutes to complete. Individual responses are anonymous and will not be made public, shared with other parties, or used in any identifiable manner. ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute (formerly Institute of Southeast Asian Studies) is dedicated to the study of socio-political, security, and economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia and its wider geostrategic and economic environment. The Institute aims to stimulate research and debate within scholarly circles, enhance public awareness of the region, and facilitate the search for viable solutions to the varied problems confronting the region. It also strives to nurture a community of scholars interested in the region and to engage in research on the multi-faceted dimensions and issues of stability and security, economic development, and political, social, and cultural change. The Institute conducts a range of research programmes; holds conferences, workshops, lectures, and seminars; publishes briefs, research journals, and books; and provides a range of research support facilities, including a large library collection.

Happening now - Pleased to have Prof Suthikarn Meechan and Prof Viengrat Nethipo with us this morning to examine #Thailand’s local elections, using the last provincial administrative organisation elections as a case study. Prof Suthikarn and Prof Viengrat deep dived into the influences of political dynasties, money politics, and local networks while assessing the changing dynamics between national and local parties and politicians on traditionally localised elections. They also explore the broader implications for national politics and emerging trends leading up to the 2027 general election, followed by a Q&A session with the online audience.
