On October 22nd, 2024, Humber Downtown- International Graduate School held an impactful Campus Recruitment & Networking Event where students met industry leaders to explore new career paths.     With the help of our industry partners such as Guhuza, LetsStopAIDS, Mars, Kassen Recruitment, Klick, Xello, ServiceMaster Restore®, IPG Mediabrands, the event was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect, ask questions, and gain insights into building their careers. LSA hired two interns on the spot! Bridging healthcare and gaming is my professional and personal passion. Working with some of my incredible colleagues Amy Gomez, Ph.D., Diana Diament, MD, and Lisa Fritts on this new POV was an opportunity to explore how gaming can be a powerful tool for addressing mental health disparities, specifically in Hispanic communities. Our additional hope with this POV was to address the importance of representation in gaming for other underrepresented groups. With a focus on culturally relevant, immersive strategies, at Klick we’re tapping into the power of gaming to make mental wellness more accessible. This kind of work fuels me: using innovative approaches to reach underserved populations to make a real difference. Despite evidence suggesting that rates of depression among Latinos are equal or higher compared to non-Latinos, diagnosis and treatment rates remain lower. How can we connect authentically and help normalize diagnosis and treatment? What if mental health support doesn’t always look like therapy? What if it looks like something Latinos already love? We’re striving to answer these questions in “Hispanics and Mental Health: Gaming as a Pathway to Self-Care,” Klick’s latest POV developed with my wonderful colleagues Devon M. Taylor, Diana Diament, MD, and Lisa Fritts. In this article, we explore the mental health disparities facing Hispanic communities and how culturally relevant solutions—like gaming—can become pathways to self-care.
