A new chapter in space exploration has begun. NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Europa Clipper mission launched yesterday, and we are proud to be part of this groundbreaking journey to explore Jupiter’s mysterious, ice-covered moon, Europa. Beneath its frozen surface lies a vast ocean, holding more liquid water than all of Earth’s oceans combined. 🌊 In partnership with Arizona State University School of Earth and Space Exploration, our Westford, Massachusetts optics team pushed the boundaries of innovation. Using advanced photolithography and metallization, we’ve created solderable seal rings on custom diamond substrates. These unique diamond windows, with their precise microstructures, are pivotal to the Europa Thermal Emission Imaging System (E-THEMIS), capturing high-resolution, multi-spectral images to study water plumes erupting into space. From Project Mercury to the James Webb Space Telescope, our legacy in space exploration continues with the Europa Clipper mission, a testament to our relentless pursuit of innovation. 💫 https://lnkd.in/g4aEhDFr #NASA #EuropaClipper #SpaceExploration #Innovation #ASU #SpaceTech #Jupiter #Europa #STEM #WeEnableWhatsNext

Last week, our industry expert, Keith Smith, attended the groundbreaking event for Kairos Power’s new molten salt plant. We partner with Kairos Power in pioneering the development of advanced nuclear reactors to provide safer, cleaner, and more affordable energy. Their new plant will utilize Materion's beryllium fluoride to produce the molten salt that fuels their innovative reactor technology. This partnership underscores our commitment to supporting cutting-edge solutions for a sustainable energy future.
We are pleased to announce the start of construction on a new facility at Kairos Power's Albuquerque, N.M. campus to produce high-purity molten salt coolant for advanced reactors, starting with the Hermes Low-Power Demonstration Reactor in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Aligned with Kairos Power’s iterative development approach, the Salt Production Facility will build upon lessons learned from the company’s Molten Salt Purification Plant, which successfully produced 14 tons of unenriched Flibe for the non-nuclear Engineering Test Unit (ETU 1.0) demonstration last year. “The facilities we are building in Albuquerque will play a pivotal role in deploying Kairos Power’s clean energy technology with robust safety at an affordable cost,” said Kairos Power Chief Technology Officer and co-founder Edward Blandford. “With the addition of molten salt coolant production, Kairos Power’s Manufacturing Development Campus will soon have all the capabilities we need to deliver the Hermes demonstration reactor and establish a credible path to scale up production for the commercial fleet.” On the same day we broke ground on the Salt Production Facility, Kairos Power held a dedication ceremony for its Manufacturing Development Campus. Guests toured the company’s facilities and heard remarks from local, state, and federal leaders celebrating the transformational site where Kairos Power is piloting key manufacturing capabilities to enable the clean energy transition. “For decades we dreamed of Albuquerque being at the center of the renewable economy, that dream is more and more becoming reality,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “We have the right workforce and the right location to be the home of the clean energy manufacturing, and Kairos brings more good-paying jobs for Albuquerque families.” Read the full story on our website: https://lnkd.in/g8A5Cd3C
