About us

The mission of MINDEF and the Singapore Armed Forces is to enhance Singapore's peace and security through deterrence and diplomacy, and should these fail, to secure a swift and decisive victory over the aggressor. The Defence Executive Officer (DXO) scheme is the non-uniformed career scheme of MINDEF that offers myriad opportunities in various job functions, such as corporate communications, cyber security, data analytics and visualisation, defence policy, finance, HR, psychology, and more. Embodying the same level of commitment towards defence, DXOs work together with their military counterparts to contribute to MINDEF/SAF’s mission and ensure Singapore's security and stability. United by this common cause, our lines of defence complement each other to secure the prosperity and progress of our nation. Discover a different line of defence as a DXO at www.mindef.gov.sg/dxo. MINDEF and Nanyang Technological University Singapore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to attract the brightest researchers to undertake exciting and challenging defence research in support of Singapore’s national defence and security. The Temasek-Nanyang Assistant Professorship (Temasek-NAP) will be awarded to exceptional and promising research talents who are keen to lead in next-generation cutting-edge defence research. For more info: https://lnkd.in/gsaVuU46 Permanent Secretary (Defence Development) Mr Melvyn Ong signed the MOU with NTU President Prof Ho Teck Hua on 3 September 2024. During Mr Ong’s visit to NTU in October 2023, he visited the Microsystems Technologies Development Centre which is the only ISO-certified III-V and III-Nitride semiconductor facility in Singapore that supports Singapore’s defence requirements in microsystem technologies. As one of the world's key players in Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, Singapore’s capability in GaN can be traced back to the Centre of Microsystems Technology (CMT) at Temasek Laboratories@NTU which grew from a small lab to an ISO-certified facility to design and produce high-performance electronics for sensors and communications. The GaN capabilities developed by CMT have since transitioned to establish the National Gallium Nitride Technology Centre (NGTC) in 2023. This is part of the Defence Technology Community’s long-term investments in harnessing Critical and Emerging Technologies (CETs), accelerating technology innovation and boosting supply chain resilience.

The SOI was signed by MINDEF’s Deputy Secretary (Technology) BG Yew Chee Leung and US DoD’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Officer Dr Radha Iyengar Plumb, and enables both defence establishments to discuss approaches and exchange best practices on leveraging these technologies. The signing of the SOI builds on MINDEF’s and the United States Department of Defense's long-standing defence technology cooperation, where both countries agreed to cooperate in new, advanced and niche areas, and further defence cooperation in existing military, policy, strategic technology, and non-conventional security spheres.
