  • The numbers are in for month one of our Steps Challenge…and Gary Deakin is in the lead! Every year Nova Systems International hosts the Steps Challenge – a company-wide competition to encourage fitness, wellbeing and good health. Running from July to September, it culminates in our Top Stepper being announced at our Annual Conference. This year, our goal is to collectively “walk” the distance between our offices – and the distance from Bristol to Singapore, via Shannon and Stavanger, is 15,861kms…or 21,148,000 steps! As you can see, we’ve had a good first 6 weeks, hitting a collective 10.20 million steps so far. Juliette Williams, Project Management Consultant in our Capability Advisory Program team, is in command of the competition this year and says: “I believe that a little healthy team competition in this manner can sometimes lead to better individual life choices. "My own experience from last year, when the steps challenge was brought in, I realised that I regularly had days where I would achieve less than 7000 steps. I decided to set myself a personal challenge of upping my daily steps to 10000 a day for the whole of the month in September. "And whilst I didn’t quite achieve it (two days I had circa 9500) I made a small change that has stuck. Now, I am much more aware of my daily habits, make sensible choices and as a result, I very rarely achieve less than 10000 steps a day. I am definitely feeling the health benefits in return." Do Neil Calvert or Martin Broadhurst have it in them to pip Gary to the top for August? We’ll soon see! #WeAreNova #LifeAtNova

  • ANNOUNCEMENT: New partnership with UK-based technology platform CloudRF We're joining forces with CloudRF to bolster our combined Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) solutions. Leveraging CloudRF's user-friendly radio frequency software, Nova is able to tailor and deploy cutting-edge capability across Defence and other industries; the result being accessible and assured radiofrequency (RF) planning. Managing Director Andrew Mannix says the partnership is a natural fit for both businesses. "Nova is a trusted partner to defence, industry and government for Electromagnetic Spectrum engineering services," he said. "Whether it be through systems integration via test and evaluation, systems safety and the requirement to bring speed to capability through to our many digital engineering threads, the technology stack we deploy is at the cutting edge in this space.” CloudRF founder, Alex Farrant said the partnership was an exciting opportunity to update strategic tools, introduce tactical RF planning at the edge and realise the full potential of autonomous systems via APIs. “As a disruptive SME, we have fresh technology but not the whole solution. We need the deep expertise of Nova Systems to package and assure this technology and integrate it with established and future systems to solve a problem. “Our API first approach and GPU acceleration means we can offer interfaces for users and machines alike to make decisions in real time. It can be scaled to mobile app users to visualise tactical communications or automated across autonomous and C4ISR systems to improve situational awareness, maintain communications and minimise interference.” Nova Systems and CloudRF will work closely together collaborating on current regional opportunities to deploy cutting edge technology that can be used across a variety of communications-based industries including Defence, mining, essential services, telecommunications and more. #WeAreNova

  • “The energy, passion and enthusiasm of #engineers makes it a pleasure to project manage…although this does provide challenges as well!” Continuing the conversation following International Women in Engineering Day, we’re shining a light on members of our wider team - what drew them to a their career, and their vision for the future. Claire Adams is a Project & Programme Management consultant in the Maritime Digital environment. “There are always challenges that engineering projects bring; always delays due to technical issues and problems which you must work through – a good team is essential for success, as is the ability to be innovative. “I was a Crown Servant for over 30 years, working across Logistics, Training and Project Management. Prior to joining Nova, I was delivered deployed ICT to Front-Line Commands – Maritime, Air, Land and Royal Marines – deploying complex capabilities (within the auspices of Defence Digital) to the QEC Aircraft Carriers, working closely with my in-house Engineering team. "The future of engineering is so exciting. The speed that technology is advancing in all sectors, and from which Defence can leverage off other sectors is astonishing. "My advice for women considering a career in engineering is feel empowered and confident of your abilities. We bring a different perspective, and provide balance, to the workplace. "It is still a male dominated world, so approach work in a measured way. Use those excellent skills we process – listen, then have the confidence to speak and do not let others speak over you. "It can be tough for women, but in my career to date I have navigated through by remembering ‘respect is earned and is not a right’. Follow your heart and passion, not what others think!”. #WeAreNova #IWED24
