Building Prosperity through a Nature-Positive Circular Economy The health of our economy is intrinsically linked to the health of nature, yet our current trajectory of overexploitation and undervaluation has led to unprecedented environmental decline. This needs to change. A new report, "Building Prosperity: Unlocking the Potential of a Nature-Positive, Circular Economy for Europe," highlights the immense value of a circular economy designed to be regenerative. By shifting from a resource-intensive model to one that decouples economic activities from finite resource consumption, we can achieve resilience, competitiveness, and vibrant urban landscapes. Key Insights: - The construction sector, responsible for 36% of Europe’s emissions, can unlock over €575 billion annually by 2035 through circular strategies. - Six mature and scalable strategies can drive economic and environmental gains: revitalizing brownfield sites, converting vacant buildings, increasing urban tree canopies, expanding green-blue spaces, employing material-efficient designs, and using low-impact materials. By adopting these strategies, Europe can meet its climate and biodiversity goals, creating a resilient and prosperous future. Let’s champion this shift towards a nature-positive circular economy.
