One such story is that of 𝑶𝒉𝑴𝒚𝑫𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒓 — a Melbourne-based food truck redefining Berlin Style kebabs. When Daryl, the founder of 𝑂ℎ𝑀𝑦𝐷𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑟, tasted a traditional German kebab in Berlin, it sparked a bold idea — bringing that unforgettable experience home to Melbourne. Back in Melbourne, Daryl dived headfirst into months of experimentation. His restaurant became a testing lab where countless recipes were tried, refined, and scrapped. Just when he began to get the hang of things, the world changed — COVID hit, reshaping the way people dined and did business. The traditional restaurant model was no longer viable, and Daryl had to pivot quickly. He saw the rise of mobile food services and embraced the food truck trend. “Once you own a truck, there’s freedom. You can go wherever the people are, without being tied down by rent,” he shared. However, even with the perfect setup, Daryl faced one major #challenge: finding a plant-based protein that lived up to his creative ambitions. “I couldn’t find a vegan product that matched the flavor and texture of real meat,” Daryl shared. That changed, when a mutual connection introduced him to Dr. Gaurav and Shandi’s plant-based shredded chicken. “It was exactly what I needed — the right texture, plain enough to marinate however I wanted. It felt just like real chicken. The flavors were spot on, and the flexibility it gave me was unbelievable,” Daryl said with pride. #Customerfeedback validated his instincts. “I’ve had people who aren’t even vegan tell me, ‘I’d eat this over chicken.’ That kind of response? That’s gold,” he beamed. One #standoutmoment came at a #FineFoods tasting event. “Nine out of ten people loved it. Even that one die-hard meat eater said, ‘It’s not quite for me, but it’s still good. Transitioning from a restaurant to a food truck wasn’t easy, but Daryl thrived. “You prepare days in advance and make your kitchen efficient on wheels. But it’s worth it — the freedom to go where demand is and serve food, you’re proud of? Nothing better.” He spoke. Today, #OhMyDoner is thriving, booked solid for events and catering, spreading its plant-based #BerlinStylekebabs far and wide, and continuing to captivate customers wherever they go.     Consumers want to eat more plant-based foods, but cost and taste still stand in the way. Our latest EAT-GlobeScan Grains of Truth report shows that while 68% of people worldwide want to eat more plant-based foods, only 20% do so regularly—down from 23% in 2023. With rising food prices, many consumers have returned to cheaper, familiar options instead of plant-based alternatives. What can brands do? 1. Make plant-based foods more accessible Cost remains a major barrier. Explore subsidies for producers, tax incentives for consumers, and competitive pricing models 2. Invest in research and development Taste and texture are key reasons why consumers hesitate. Invest resources in product innovation that aligns with cultural food preferences 3.
