"We visited SILICON BOX, a world's leading semiconductor manufacturing company, which will open its [European] headquarters in Novara. Italy and Singapore are together with a vision of the future and a perspective of well-being and job creation," said the Deputy Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy (Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy) Valentino Valentini. "In Novara we will build a more advanced factory than the one born just a year ago in Singapore: the goal is to create cheaper and faster chips". The last weekend has been an enriching mix of chamber related activities (from the reformulation of the statutes of the Chamber to the activities run out or to run) and exciting company visits. Thanks to mark Sorensen we had a mind blogging explanation of how PSA Singapore (Port of Singapore) is a vital hub for international trade with its 100 MILLION containers handling every year! BJ Han and his son Mike Han of SILICON BOX have shown us a unique factory of microprocessors chiplets that is growing crazily and has decided to invest 3,2 Billion Euros in a greenfield factory in the Novara region in Italy! In the morning an interesting panel had set the tone about the economic and geopolitical situation of the area, nicely moderated by National University of Singapore vice Dean Francesco Mancini and great insight stories by SDA Bocconi faculty Caroline Berube and introduced by Ai Jen Chua, CA (Singapore), FCCA economist of Julius Baer. Everything was hosted by the President of The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore Gionata Bosco, and the extremely interactive meetings directed by Secretary General Mimmo Mauriello and President Mario Pozza. With the constant presence of Onorevole Nicola Carè Member of the Parliament. A great group that while having fun, based of deep common values and passion, manages to put on the table the different perspectives (almost always) in a very respectful way, but more than that shows the potential of the network in such a high potential area of the world.
