  • Obtaining a healthcare facility license is a major task before we start a new medical facility in Singapore. Today three patient care areas in the new SGH Emergency / NNI building underwent MOH inspection - Emergency Department, Wards and Pharmacy. We went through with the MOH auditors, various operating, manpower policies and procedures, equipment list, business continuity plans, fire safety drill records, etc.

  • Epidurals, or other forms of pain relief are a common choice when women go through childbirth. But some are now choosing to forgo this medical intervention, instead using non-medical techniques for managing pain. While some have the belief that going through full labour pains will make the motherhood experience "complete", others may have the misconception that an epidural may harm the baby. Anaesthesiologist Dr He Ying Ke dispels this, sharing that pain relief medication stays in the epidural space around the spine, and will not cross the placenta and affect the baby. Furthermore, severe pain may result in increased blood pressure, which may have a more severe impact on patients who already have high blood pressure or ischaemic heart disease. • We are so proud of our Interventional Radiology (IR) colleagues and the work they do for patients in Singapore for the past 65 years. 65 years. Since the Seldinger technique was brought back to Singapore by Dr Chow Khuen Wai. And the specialty of Interventional Radiology #IR was launched on our little island. Today, we gathered at a Gala Dinner to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Interventional Radiology at Singapore General Hospital. Reflecting on the remarkable achievements over the decades, from a fledgling service to a full fledged Department of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. It was touching to hear the tributes from the many overseas fellows and faculty who have trained in #IR in our hospital. Many have become leaders in their own countries. As the saying goes, a great teacher is measured by the number of students who surpass him/her. And tonight, we celebrated many great teachers and students. It was therefore fitting that the INSPIRE (International Network of SingHealth and Partners in Interventional Radiology Education) was launched tonight. The KW Chow Interventional Radiology Research Fund was also launched, supported by a very generous donation from the family of the late Dr Chow. The guest-of-honour DPM Heng Swee Keat graced the occasion and shared personal perspectives of interventional radiology, urging all of us to seize on many new opportunities in healthcare to improve patient care. It was a wonderful night, celebrating remarkable achievements, amazing mentors and exciting promises ahead. Big congratulations to all my #IR colleagues 🎊🎉 Kiang Hiong Tay Chow Wei Too Ankur Patel Tan Bien Soo Farah Irani Apoorva Gogna Alexander Sheng Ming Tan
