Translating classroom learnings into real-world applications! 🔁👨🎓 Congratulations to the Singapore Polytechnic (SP) team for clinching top prizes at the 19th International Standards Olympiad! 🎉 Jointly organised by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) and Korean Standards Association (KSA), this annual event is designed for students around the world to demonstrate their problem-solving skills and creativity in addressing issues of #global concern through #standards. This year’s Olympiad welcomed 20 teams from 10 countries. Over 2 days of intense brainstorming, our students ideated and presented their very own standards on deploying #AI in an ethical manner that facilitates technological advancement while ensuring user safety. 👩💻 In addition to sharing their novel #solutions to emerging challenges, our students also had the opportunity to better understand the international #standardisation arena and #network with other young adults to gain a variety of perspectives. 💡 Hats off to team SP for their exceptional performance! “Breaking boundaries” at the ISO - International Organization for Standardization Annual Meeting 2024 🌏🤝 Singapore Standards Council participated in another fruitful edition of this landmark event in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia this year. 🙂 #Singapore had the opportunity to share insights and exchange perspectives on: 💡 Our experience in building trust in AI through AI Verify Foundation – IMDA’s national AI governance testing toolkit which validates the performance of AI systems against internationally recognised principles 👩💻 💡 How #SMART standards can be deployed to ensure customer centricity, enhance engagement with local stakeholders such as regulators, and build a more digitally integrated world to accelerate innovation 📲 Together with our global standards community, we also delved into advancing sustainable socioeconomic progress and enhancing cooperation in international standardisation. Igniting passion for standards development in the food industry 💡🍜 Food science undergraduates at National University of Singapore recently had the opportunity to dive into the world of #foodindustry standards as a part of their undergraduate module – Innovation, Project and Issue Management in the Food Industry. Led by Allan Lim, Chair of the Food Standards Committee (FSC), the session sparked awareness on topics such as the importance of adopting standards to enhance the sector’s competitiveness and mitigate risks, as well as FSC’s role in developing standards to support national initiatives and evolving global needs. 🥗🌏 To showcase how pivotal standards are in our daily lives, Dr Lim highlighted real-world applications of: ➡️ SS 661, which ensures #efficient and #sustainable resource use in #urbanfarming and bolsters consumer confidence in locally grown produce. This contributes to Singapore’s “30-by-30” goal, for our agri-food industry to sustainably produce 30% of our nutritional needs by 2030 🌿✅ ➡️ SS 668, which has strengthened Singapore’s cold chain ecosystem to uphold food #safety, #freshness, and #quality, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic 🥕🍖🧊 Beyond the information sharing, the session also featured a pop quiz and Q&A to help students gain a better understanding of food industry #standards and learn from our standards partners. Intelligent solutions for a more #sustainable future 🌱⏩ It was a pleasure to host our esteemed partners from DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies) and Siemens in #Singapore! 🌐🤝 Enterprise Singapore brought together our counterparts from Germany and local partners from the Technical Committee on Smart Manufacturing (SMTC). Our partners exchanged information on enhancing #circularity in #manufacturing through #smart solutions. 🧠⚙ Matthias Gommel, Vadim Baskal, and Maximilian Höving from Siemens gave us an inside look into their innovative digital product passport (DPP) technology. By collating product lifecycle data, DPP enhances transparency and accessibility in manufacturing processes by providing customers with data at their fingertips. With access to information ranging from composition and durability of the product to #GHG emissions in the production process, customers are empowered to make more sustainable choices. 🤔🌳 marvin boell from DKE highlighted the pivotal role that international #standards developed by IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and ISO - International Organization for Standardization play in supporting the successful development of Industry 4.0 solutions such as DPP – in aspects ranging from #digital representation and identification of an asset to #data security and interoperability. 📝 Singapore Standards Council and our local standards partners also gained insights into upcoming regulatory trends in the #Europe and how #Singapore can contribute to accelerating global #supplychain interoperability. 🌏 We are grateful to our #international partners for the informative sharing and look forward to more fruitful #collaboration ahead! Leveraging standards to drive advancement in CET 🌏🤝 Standards are essential in guiding #innovation in emerging technologies – to ensure interoperability, mitigate risks, and build trust with early adopters. ✅ Together with ISO - International Organization for Standardization, Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Standards Australia, Enterprise Singapore welcomed participants from across the #ASEAN region for the 2024 ISO Workshop on Critical & Emerging Technologies (#CET) in Singapore last week. Over 3 days, participants exchanged perspectives and insights on #standards development in nascent and disruptive areas such as #AI, #advancedmanufacturing and #robotics, and #sustainableenergy. ISO consultant speakers, susan chong and Patric Ridell also highlighted the importance of CET standards in facilitating #regional and #global interoperability and got participants thinking on ways to navigate emerging technologies together. 💭 Beyond that, we also visited A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research and IMDA, where participants gained an inside look into real-world applications of standards for CET such as in: ➡️ The secure deployment of a human-centric, immersive digital twin at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology Model Factory – an Industry 5.0 learning hub for companies to experiment with autonomous manufacturing technologies 🤖 ➡️ The safe handling of hazardous materials in additive manufacturing processes ➕ ➡️ IMDA’s AI governance testing toolkit – AIVerify – which verifies the claimed performance of AI systems implemented in Singapore to ensure they are fair, explainable, and robust. 💻🧠 Thank you to our partners and participants for the fruitful and engaging discussions.
