This week, we hosted a deep-dive masterclass on "Penetration Testing & Risk Management for AppSec." 🔍 The session explored how to scope a penetration test effectively while balancing security needs with business constraints. Here are some key takeaways: 🔑 Penetration Testing is a Must: No matter the size of your organisation, penetration testing is a de facto requirement. But the real question is: How do we derive maximum value from it? The answer lies in scoping the requirements and prioritising the findings to address what truly matters. 🎯 Defining Objectives: We explored how to set clear objectives for a penetration test to make it targeted and actionable. A well-defined scope ensures that the test aligns with both security goals and business priorities. 📊 Risk Analysis & Prioritization: Not all vulnerabilities are created equal. We discussed how to analyze risks, prioritise security concerns, and make informed decisions that align with overall business objectives. This ensures that resources are allocated to address the most critical issues first. 💡 Realistic Scenarios & Role-Playing: The session brought theory to life with realistic scenarios, including a lively role-play between developers and security engineers. This highlighted the common challenges teams face and how to navigate them effectively. We also analysed the potential impact of vulnerabilities that organisations may encounter in real-world situations.
