“What do you want to be when you grow up?” Did you have that question asked of you when you were a student? Many of us were – from our parents to teachers and friends. And did you ponder seriously about it, or did you think that (adult) world was just too far away still from your childhood? Although #SIRS is best and well known for its almost 20-year efforts focusing on the adult learner world, it is our firm belief that the learning mindset is one that needs to be nurtured and inculcated from a younger age, and developed into an active lifelong learning journey. Having trained well over 200,000 individual learners and businesses, and despite the many and relentless evolutions and changes on many fronts, we see many of them continue thriving in their successes alongside their dedication to continual upskilling and self-development. We are pleased hence to have recently hosted some of our younger students and their teachers from Northland Secondary School. Being able to play a role in the learning journeys of our younger generations is an integral part of our mission in nurturing our future towards better outcomes. Through interactive participation, the students were introduced to the world of business, and the potential and possibilities it holds for them; and given an insight to the post-graduation opportunities that SIRS offers, including our #Diploma programmes in Retail Operations and in #eCommerce. SMEs play a pivotal role in the economic growth of Singapore, which was the key point of interest at the recent “Navigating AI and Sustainability in the Future of Business” event held at LLI together with SIRS, aimed at enabling a conference among SME Leaders, Entrepreneurs, Innovators and Creators. Spotlighting the key drivers of Emerging Tech and Sustainable practices, and their contribution to Singapore's development goals, a panel of industry and academic veterans came together to discourse on how SMEs can propel themselves forward to thrive in the Future Economy. The ensuing insights on developing and driving business strategies that leverage on AI and Emerging Tech, and the benefits of adopting and applying Sustainability Principles, provided a wealth of insights that was an immense source of inspiration to the attending industry personnel. The panel included Mr Andrew Seit - CEO, Chuen Jia Fu Abalone, Ms Jocelyn Chng - MD, JR Group, Dr Phua Chee Teck - NYP, Deputy Principal (Sustainability & Technology), Ms Stephanie Sitt - Co-founder and Group CEO, Pixlr, who with their well-honed experience drove home a significant and high-impact message on how SMEs can, and should, take the steps towards a future where businesses can thrive through AI-driven strategies and technologies intertwined with Sustainability principles, that in turn will contribute to the drive for economic growth, job creation and positive change for enterprises and the workforce. Event attendees also had valuable opportunities to participate in the dialogues and peer networking sessions that featured keen exchanges of ideas and sharing insights on the challenges of navigating the ever-evolving Retail landscape, and opportunities in the integration of AI and technology into daily business operations in their bid to drive efficiency and profitability. When NYP-SIRS and RIA School of Real Estate signed an MOU just 2 months ago on 13 August, the partnership’s lofty goal was to equip #Realestate Professionals with the tools, techniques and skills that will give them a boost in maximising business opportunities and success in sales.   This week, our very first class had close to 50 of these real estate professionals turning up to find out how they can “Engage Customers through Social Media”. Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) is hosting a 15-member delegation from one of our long-term China partners, SIPIVT (Suzhou Industrial Park Institute of Vocational Technology) in Singapore, these 2 weeks. As part of the 2-week programme focusing on Modern Technical Education and Student Development, SIRS is pleased to welcome the delegation, sharing with them our role on what and how we do in helping to drive the advancement of both businesses and workers in the Retail and adjacent-Service sectors. This has provided the delegation team with a holistic insight to the core education structure and proposition of our various NYP Schools, together with SIRS as a leading CET (Continuing Education and Training) institute in Singapore, that synergistically drive and support the Singapore Government’s initiatives of developing our businesses and talents towards a thriving #futureofwork and #futureofbusiness. One of the most obvious things we can do in supporting Sustainability is using less plastic and practising recycling. But do we know how else we can contribute to Sustainability? At #SIRS, our mission in support of #Sustainability is to make it accessible for everyone to put it into practice easily, and such that which also brings about positive #valuecreation for both our planet and ourselves. Since May this year, hundreds of learners have taken our #Sustainability course – with a triple bonus. From understanding why Sustainability matters to each and every one of us, and how practising it can make our lives and our future a better one – learners get down to a full session in #upcycling of pre-loved clothing and fabrics into new (and beautiful!) fashion items using our partner’s BROTHER sewing machines; followed by another full session of learning #MobilePhotography to take amazing photos for showcasing on #socialmedia, plus getting tips and insights to set up their very own Sustainability #eCommerce store! At the recent Central Singapore CDC Skills for Good Festival held at Plaza Singapura, attended by the Minister for Education of Singapore, Mr Chan Chun Sing, SIRS was present to contribute to “Skills for the good of Self, Community and for Life” which focuses on the #digital #care #green economic growth pillars of Singapore.
