    As an intern with Berita Harian’s news desk in 2006, the then 18-year-old Adilah found herself in the most unexpected place – a black metal concert. In her first foray into journalism, she was exposed to many exciting facets of society, from covering crime and court to reporting on the general election.     Before he was an SPH Media scholar, Hua Qing was a freelance journalist who actually fact-checked BBC. He believes quality journalism is increasingly being regarded as an essential service and it is this belief that caused him to correct BBC on their coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Huaqing interned at various newsrooms in SPH Media’s Chinese Media Group — Lianhe Zaobao, Shin Min Daily News and zaobao.sg — and these stints helped him learn to be agile and adaptable.     Barely six months into the job as a reporter, former theatre student Ang Qing uncovered the illegal clearing of swathes of the Kranji forest, raising public awareness for stewardship of Singapore's environment. After exploring careers in teaching and law, it was her internship at The New Paper that solidified her choice. Formerly covering general stories, the SPH Media Scholar has since transitioned to the environment beat, where she hopes to make climate change more relevant to readers.     The Singapore Corporate Awards – co-organised by The Business Times, Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants and Singapore Institute of Directors, continue to set a sterling example for local corporations. The 19th edition of this prestigious event upheld tradition by honouring individuals and companies that have significantly elevated Singapore’s corporate disclosure standards. A total of 36 companies and 6 business leaders were honoured for their outstanding contributions. Among these was the inaugural Distinction in Sustainability Reporting award, which was launched in light of the threat of climate change and sustainable business practices.     At SPH Media, we strive for excellence in every business partnership. The Business Times Corporate Golf League was no exception, and we couldn't have asked for a better presenting sponsor than Singapore Pools. Held across five courses, the five-leg golf league featured 14 teams from Singapore companies, competing passionately in both the competitive and social categories. Singapore Pools emerged as the champion, with Singapore Global Trust and SPH Media securing second and third place, respectively. Starting in the second half of the year, this respected publication will pivot from monthly general issues to three annual print editions. Each edition will focus on a key area of the home, with Kitchen & Dining 2025 and Bed & Bath 2025 coming out in August, followed by a Renovations & Interiors edition slated for a November release Preserving the nature of the content, these refreshed editions will continue providing go-to guides for home-building in Singapore, covering everything from financing and administrative know-how to interior inspiration.
