I got to know Ee Chien Chua early this year when the team told me this customer was unhappy with the services and had decided to leave. There were many red flags from the incident such as “what did we do so badly?” and “why the lack of awareness from the team including the leadership team for the dissatisfaction?”.   Without going into the details of root-causing and addressing the issue (story for another time), I am grateful that we eventually were given another chance to serve Ee Chien’s business and to the credit of our team I believe it is fair to say when it comes to the level of service there has been a complete turnaround.   I met up with Ee Chien again a few days ago at his restaurant (Jekyll and Hyde) and though I very much relished every opportunity to spend time with founders/customers (because they are just inspiring), I did wish it was under more fortunate circumstances. It was sad to learn that Jekyll and Hyde will close at the end of this year and since Ee Chien has posted separately about all that I won’t go into it.   Although there is real business impact (loss of business at Stellar), there is something else to reflect upon. At Stellar with our mission of “making it surprisingly easy to start and scale your company, anywhere in the world”, Ee Chien’s journey is a reality check for me, the team and dare I say most of us in the ecosystem that if our customers thrive then as a service provider we likely will too. But if our customers suffer then it is most definitely we will suffer too. It should be recognized the #1 challenge most SMEs need help with is to find more customers. And as a service provider we cannot be oblivious to that need and even if our services do not directly address that challenge (at least for now), keeping that in mind will keep us grounded in everything we do.   To close this off I want to thank Ee Chien again for placing his trust in us and I have no doubt that there are still a lot of irons in the fire for him.
