Leveraging the promise of technology to advance inclusive, equitable, and sustainable growth in Southeast Asia
About us
The Tech For Good Institute is a non-profit organisation on a mission to raise understanding of issues and inform policy so that the promise of technology and the digital economy may be leveraged to advance inclusive, equitable and sustainable growth. Digitalisation is one of the key transitions of this decade. Digitalisation’s general enabling technologies and new business models also play a key role in facilitating other significant transitions, such as the shift to low-carbon and circular economies, and distributed systems of power and information. With a population twice the size of the US and strong demographics, Southeast Asia (SE Asia)’s digital economy is evolving rapidly. Technology has and will continue to have a tremendous impact in aiding the region’s development. We are optimistic about technology’s potential to advance growth, while recognising that innovation shapes and is shaped by cultural, social, political, and economic contexts. The Tech For Good Institute aims to serve as a platform for research, conversations and collaborations focused on SE Asia but connected to the rest of the world. Our work focuses on topics at the intersection of technology, society and the economy, and that are intrinsically linked to the development in SE Asia. Specifically, the Institute will cover the areas of Innovation and Digital Progress, evaluated through the lens of Sustainable Growth for SE Asia. We seek to understand and inform policy with rigour, balance and perspective, through research, effective outreach and evidence-based recommendations. The Institute is a non-profit organisation, founded by Grab, SE Asia’s leading superapp, to advance the vision of a thriving, innovative SE Asia for all. We welcome opportunities for partnership and support, financial or in-kind, from other organisations sharing our vision of leveraging the promise of technology and the digital economy to advance inclusive, equitable and sustainable growth.

⏳ QUICK STORY TIME: In my past life, I was coordinating and facilitating the attendance of Philippine delegates to the US-Singapore Third Country Training Programme (TCTP). In fact, my first time in Singapore was when I was a speaker for the US-Singapore TCTP on Cybersecurity in 2018. So you can say that the TCTP programme evokes some special memories for me. ➡️ Fast forward to present time. Last week, I delivered a briefer on Southeast Asia's digital economy and the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement as part of the World Trade Organization-Singapore TCTP on E-Commerce. Thank you to the delegates for an engaging discussion on startups, digitalisation, policy alignment, and cyber resilience. This is the second time this year (the first was in April) that I have had the honour of sharing my thoughts on this key topic. 👏 Special thanks to the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore) and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise for the opportunity. Thanks as well to Jamie Ko and Grab for hosting and the collaborations. 📖Read Tech For Good Institute's DEFA Paper here: https://lnkd.in/gcXKrzdW #TechForGood #SoutheastAsia #DigitalEconomy #Technology #Innovation
