🌍 A Megacity on the Frontlines of Climate Resilience and Circular Waste Management ♻️ As one of the densest megacities in the world, Mumbai faces unique challenges, with the ocean on three sides and limited land availability. From waste management to urban flooding, the city's resilience is continually tested. Sustainable solutions are more critical than ever. We're excited to announce the release of three critical documents for #Mumbai as part of the #UrbanOcean program. Together, these documents will guide the city to build a more circular and resilient Mumbai. 🌊♻️ What's Inside: 📊 Circularity Assessment Protocol (CAP): Developed by the Circularity Informatics Lab at the University of Georgia, the CAP provides a standardized method for collecting data on plastic usage, offering invaluable insights for decision-makers. 🔍 City Waste Management Profile: An in-depth analysis of Mumbai's waste management challenges, from low waste segregation to climate vulnerabilities, and the opportunities to strengthen systems in slums and dry-waste centers. 🚀 Project Statement: Strengthening Mumbai by reducing landfilled waste and marine litter. This document outlines the city's vision for a collaborative approach to waste reduction, focusing on actionable change on the ground. The latest edition of the Plastics Circularity Investment Tracker reveals a significant disparity in global investment flows. Although North America and Europe attracted 87% of total investments, the emerging markets—primarily in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean, where plastic leakage is most prevalent—received only a small fraction of the funding. This disparity highlights the urgent need for equitable financial support towards solutions in these regions. The Investment Tracker, launched with support from IFC Climate & Sustainability, provides critical data and insights for decision makers to better understand and act upon the private investment landscape for a circular economy for plastics.
