Karen Tan describes herself as “partially insane” and “a risk taker” – much-needed qualities when you're the co-Founder of local independent cinema experience The Projector, whose tagline reads "Not your average cinema". Together with her sister Sharon Tan, and her former colleague at Citi, Blaise Trigg-Smith, Karen founded The Projector's Golden Mile Tower flagship branch, despite having no background in film nor knowledge of consumer operations. “I think about it as a counterpoint or ‘mental breathing space’ in a highly polished and planned city,” she says. Golden Village x The Projector at Cineleisure (GV x TP) is finally open, offering all you film buffs, culture junkies and nightlife fiends in Singapore a permanent home. GV programmes and tickets 3 cinema halls with blockbuster content and The Projector programmes and tickets additional 3 cinema halls with independent, festival films and live events. The Projector operates the entire venue on the ground, including the Room 237 digital art space, No Spoilers Bar & Dining Restaurant and the Ruby Lounge live music and events space. Come check us out, we are open daily from 11am to 10.30pm, with parties till late on Fridays and Saturdays.

A fantastic turnout for last Saturday's screening of UNTEACHABLE, a Singapore documentary following some Normal (Technical) students and a relief teacher's attempt to help them discover the joy of learning within the constraints of the Singapore education system. As Singapore shifts away from streaming in 2024, what more can be done to make our education system a more inclusive space for students with diverse learning capabilities?
