About us

As the umbrella body for women's organisations in Singapore, the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations (SCWO) serves as a unifying force, bringing together diverse voices and perspectives to champion gender equality. Through advocacy, education and empowerment, SCWO strives to create a society where women have equal opportunities and rights in all aspects of life. With a steadfast commitment to its goals, SCWO plays a pivotal role in driving positive change, striving to eliminate systemic barriers for women in Singapore. Equal Space - Women should feel safe wherever they are, free to live their lives as they choose without any danger of discrimination, harassment, sexual assault, and violence. Equal Voice - Women should be equally represented in political, corporate, and community leadership. Policymaking will benefit from the perspectives they bring to the discussions and decisions. Equal Worth - Women should be fully recognised and valued for their contributions to society, family, and the workplace, where there should be no gender wage gap for work of equal value.

  • Last night, we celebrated SCWO’s 45 years of powering change, building on the progress we’ve made and will make for gender equality. As our President, Dr. Seow Yian San (Yian San SEOW), shared, “Together, we’ve driven key policy changes, strengthened protections against domestic violence, and advanced workplace equality—ensuring women’s voices are heard and respected.” These milestones form the foundation we stand on as we continue to push for a more inclusive and empowered world for women and girls. This progress has been possible through the collective effort of all who believe in this cause, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to our Patron, Ms. Jane Ittogi, for her unwavering support. A heartfelt congratulations to the extraordinary trailblazers whose contributions across the arts, business, and science have shaped Singapore’s landscape: Pioneering art curator and champion of local artists, Constance Sheares (represented by her daughter, Jane Ong) Outstanding musician and nurturer of young musical talent, Vivien Goh Award-winning bilingual writer and playwright, Kamaladevi Aravindan Outstanding clinician, researcher, educator, and healthcare leader, Ivy Ng Outstanding entrepreneur and early childhood educator, June Rusdon Outstanding scientist, engineer, innovator, and academic leader, Liu Bin Your impact inspires us to continue breaking barriers and creating a lasting legacy for future generations. (Junie Foo, Mrinalini Venkatachalam, Diana Pang, Soh Chin Ong) 💜 #SCWO45 #PoweringChange2025 #SWHF

  • Is 'women empowerment’ really what you think it is? 🤔💭 Women empowerment is often misunderstood. Should only women be involved in Powering Change? Is violence against women something we should be worried about, even in a safe place like Singapore? Is empowering women really about taking power away from men? 🚨 Spoiler alert: These are just myths. Swipe through to find out more. ➡️✨ Empowering women means building a fairer, safer world for everyone. Join us in 45 Years of Powering Change—because when women thrive, society thrives. • Powering Change with my Mum by Roshini ✨ At 27, my mum packed up her life in the Philippines and left everything she knew to build a new one with my dad. As a child, I never fully grasped the struggles she endured - not just raising me, her first and extremely fussy baby (as pictured at my brother's 1st birthday party), but navigating motherhood in a foreign land, far from home. She battled postpartum depression and the loneliness many migrant mothers face, yet she never let it define her. Instead, she filled her days with acts of kindness - carrying groceries for our elderly neighbours, cooking meals for other migrant women in our community, always offering warmth to those around her. It left me in equal parts confusion and awe. I'd ask her "Who are these people? Why are you helping them?" And she'd simply say, "It's important to be kind - you never know what someone is going through." I'm still learning to embody the selflessness she has shown her whole life, but her actions have instilled in me a deep dedication to giving back to the community and helping those who need it most. This is why Powering Change matters - because every woman, no matter where she comes from, deserves support and the chance to thrive. • Powering Change with my Mum by Maeve 💫 My greatest inspiration has always been my mother. She is a teacher, not only by profession but in the way she moves through life—with passion, kindness, and unwavering dedication to others. She fills our home with Ella Fitzgerald’s voice, the scent of Earl Grey tea, and my life with wisdom. Always ready to listen, offer perspective, and make time, she ensures that, no matter how busy she is, she sits down for dinner with me every Monday. She inspires me to continually strive for new heights and pushes me to pursue what I want. And as much as she has devoted her life to teaching others, the person I’ve learned the most from is her. Here’s to celebrating the women who shape our lives. Be part of this meaningful journey at our 45th Anniversary Gala: https://lnkd.in/gZ8nsXdK #PoweringChange2025 #WomenEmpowerment #SCWO Shared by Maeve, SCWO Staff

  • Powering Change with my Mum by Lorraine Lim 🌷 My mum’s motto in life is that we should not just care for our own family but we must care for others too. She lived by that and showed by example. Even now, in her 70s, she goes out almost daily helping friends with all sorts of errands including accompanying them when they’re lonely. She is a long serving volunteer with Christian Outreach to the Handicapped and serves actively in church. Her zeal for helping others made an impact on me and my sis. We both grew up to be helping professionals - social worker and counsellor. Thank you, Mummy, for inspiring me to help others. A person's love can ripple outwards, changing lives in ways we may never fully know. If you, too, believe in the power of community and care, join us at our 45th Anniversary Gala—a night where we come together to uplift those who need it most. ✨ Find out how you can uplift the women in your community by clicking the link: https://lnkd.in/gZ8nsXdK #PoweringChange2025 #WomenEmpowerment #SCWO Shared by Lorraine, SCWO Deputy CEO

  • If you can’t be at our 45th Anniversary Gala, you can still stand with us. Your donation can be the difference between a woman finding refuge or staying in fear. It can help a mother fight for the justice she and her children deserve. Every dollar supports the Star Shelter, a safe haven for survivors of domestic violence, and Maintenance Support Central, where women seek legal aid to secure their rightful support. For 45 years, we’ve fought for them—will you? 💙 Be a catalyst for change. Donate today: https://lnkd.in/gZ8nsXdK #PoweringChange2025 #SupportWomen #SCWO
