A rapid investigation of the state of the #NHS was recently undertaken by Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham OM KBE PC FRS, and concluded that "the NHS is in critical condition, but its vital signs are strong". Whilst the assessment of the NHS is stark, Lord Darzi emphasises some of the key remedies that can help address these challenges. Vista Health's Tom Hampshire highlights some of the key solutions that can help deliver better services, and secure its future for generations to come.
What a tough but compelling read Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham OM KBE PC FRS, and a true call to action for everyone determined to see the NHS delivering the best outcomes for the UK population from the substantial (but finite) resources we have. Reform of the NHS will be crucial but needs to be very carefully thought through. With household economic challenges and inequity, never have the NHS principles of free at point of delivery / publicly funded been so important. However, to deliver better value healthcare we must be prepared to learn from healthcare systems elsewhere in the world (and some excellent local pockets of practise in the NHS!) that: 1. Empower all care professionals to contribute to their full potential 2. Truly leverage data and technology to give actionable insights and automate processes 3. Partner with pharma and life sciences companies, leveraging their capabilities and making them an accountable part of the solution 4. Integrate patient experience, learning from the best customer-centric organisations 5. Intervene earlier in disease management, so people can avoid illness and remain healthy and economically active Let’s be optimistic and ambitious, but approach this with humility and great care.

Last month, the World Health Organization (#WHO) declared the #mpox outbreak (formerly known as Monkeypox) a public health emergency of international concern (#PHEIC) due to the surge in cases across the Democratic Republic of the Congo (#DRC) and a growing number of countries in #Africa reporting cases. According to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, “the emergence of a new clade of mpox, its rapid spread in eastern DRC, and the reporting of cases in several neighbouring countries are very worrying. On top of outbreaks of other mpox clades in DRC and other countries in Africa, it’s clear that a coordinated international response is needed to stop these outbreaks and save lives.” Whilst mpox has been circulating sporadically across the world since 2022, when many #COVID19 restrictions were lifted, the emerging Clade Ib of mpox is of particular concern due to its higher transmissibility and potential for more severe clinical outcomes. At #VistaHealth, we are closely monitoring the situation and would like to share our insights on the developments regarding mpox in the article below, where we provide a brief history of the virus, a status update on Clade Ib transmission, control efforts, and currently available prevention measures. If you would like to learn more about the Mpox outbreak or Vista Health’s work in infectious disease control, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@vista.health. #DiseaseOutbreak #PandemicPreparedness #Vaccination #HealthEquity #DiseasePrevention #InfectiousDiseases #Virology

Today on World Organ Donation Day, we celebrate the significant impact that organ donation has had — an act that can transform lives and communities. At Vista Health, we recognise how organ donation has been a lifeline for many patients who for one reason or another have suffered organ failure. Value-based healthcare prioritises improving patient outcomes in the long run. Organ donation aligns with this approach by delivering significant health benefits and enhancing quality of life. It’s about more than just survival; it’s about thriving. Key Statistics: The most frequently donated organs include the kidney, liver, and heart. These organs also have the highest waitlists reflecting the urgent need for more donors (1). In Asia Pacific, South Korea significantly outpaces all other countries in living organ donation, suggesting a strong culture or system supporting living donation whereas Australia has the highest rate of deceased organ donation, indicating effective organ donation systems and public awareness (2). Vista Health is proud to have supported the transplant community and have pursued projects such as launching a patient support app in partnership with Transplant Australia. On 28th July, we marked World #Hepatitis Day, a reminder of the ongoing fight against viral hepatitis. Vista Health reaffirms its commitment to addressing this disease and its severe impacts. The #AsiaPacific region accounts for 63% of global liver disease deaths, with viral hepatitis being a major contributor to this crisis. The region is grappling with a silent epidemic that requires immediate action. Hepatitis is the leading cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (#HCC) in the region and presents a substantial clinical and economic burden when not effectively managed. Despite recent advancements, significant challenges persist in achieving the World Health Organization’s (#WHO) goal of eliminating hepatitis by 2030. To address this, Vista Health is partnered with the APAC Liver Disease Alliance to support efforts that address this urgent issue. Last year, we co-developed a comprehensive White Paper and infographic titled "Eliminating Asia’s Silent Emergency: Hepatitis and Hepatocellular Carcinoma," designed to drive informed action and unite stakeholders. Roughly one year on, the findings of the paper remain pertinent. To read our White Paper, gain insights from our launch webinar, and learn about how we can collectively advance the fight against hepatitis in Asia – please click here: https://lnkd.in/ghpub3Xh. Looking ahead, the APAC Liver Disease Alliance is hosting a summit in Bangkok, Thailand this October to discuss and advance the agenda for hepatitis elimination. For updates, please visit the APAC Liver Disease Alliance website, https://lnkd.in/eTi9qkc5, and follow their LinkedIn Page, https://lnkd.in/d2pY_Gds.
