Our AI-based real-time 3D reconstruction approach solves for global pose alignment and obtains dense volumetric reconstructions from 2D satellite images at a level of quality and completeness that was previously only attainable with human intervention and expensive photogrammetry methods. Previously, city modelling and reality capture relied on manual labour-intensive processes - spanning months or even years.   • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and UAV traffic management (UTM) have drawn attention for applications such as parcel delivery, aerial mapping, agriculture, and surveillance based on line-of- sight (LoS) links. UTM is essential to operate multiple fully autonomous UAVs safely beyond the visual line of sight (BVLoS) in the future dense UAV traffic environment. A 3D city model or map plays a crucial role in drone air traffic management by providing highly detailed and accurate representations of urban environments, including buildings, terrain, and infrastructure. These models allow drones to navigate complex city landscapes safely and efficiently by offering precise information on obstacle locations, flight paths, and restricted areas. With real-time integration of data, 3D city models help create dynamic geofencing zones, ensuring drones avoid no-fly zones and critical infrastructure. Additionally, these models support route planning and collision avoidance by allowing drones to fly at optimised altitudes and paths, reducing the risk of accidents. In air traffic management systems, 3D models are essential for monitoring and coordinating multiple drones, enabling safe and efficient urban air mobility operations. The shift towards photorealistic, dimensionally accurate three-dimensional (3D) city models is paramount for effective UAV traffic management. This document explores the advantages of 3D city models in enhancing spatial awareness, ensuring safety, and optimising route planning, while also discussing the critical distinctions between 2D and 3D models in urban UAV operations. The use of photorealistic, dimensionally accurate 3D city models in UAV traffic management represents a significant advancement over traditional 2D maps. While 2D maps offer basic spatial data, they are inadequate for managing the complexities of UAV navigation in urban environments. By integrating vertical dimensions, obstacle detection, and real-time environmental data, 3D models enhance safety, optimize route planning, and improve situational awareness for UAV operators. As UAV operations expand in urban settings, the adoption of 3D models will be crucial in developing efficient, scalable, and safe air traffic management systems. In addition, the integration of city-scale 3D maps with urban infrastructure systems, including air traffic control, telecommunications networks, urban mobility platforms, emergency response systems, and utility networks, represents a significant advancement in the management of UAV operations within cities. By leveraging these integrations, cities can ensure safer, more efficient, and better-coordinated UAV traffic, supporting a future in which airspace and ground mobility are seamlessly intertwined. This holistic approach will be crucial as UAVs play an increasing role in urban logistics, surveillance, and emergency response, transforming the way cities function and manage their resources. We are currently working on integrating our 3D maps of major world cities into UAV Traffic Control Management Software.
