"When I had the opportunity to shape digital healthcare products and bring these ideas into being, this felt like a perfect fit," he explains his decision. 💬 "I think digital is now seen as the key enabler to tackling healthcare challenges globally rather than a secondary consideration. We are excited to share that we have formed a new partnership with Lithuanian health tech company UAB "Varutis" to develop a new electronic health record (EHR) system, Varutis OpenCare, and a data platform, both based on the openEHR standard. 🇱🇹🎊   🚀As the foundation for its OpenCare solution, Varutis will use the Better digital health platform. It will help reduce the time and effort required to create new EHR modules, ensure data management and quality, allow for longitudinal care records, and incorporate AI into health and care processes. 💥 "No data, no go!" 💥 This sentence, mentioned by Patrik Georgii-Hemming, Chief Medical Information Officer at the Karolinska University Hospital, was the main idea of the Better customer event 'Redefining the future of healthcare', which took place today in London. We had a room full of customers, partners, and colleagues from the NHS and across Europe who shared their learnings, progress, and insights about Better products and solutions. The importance of collecting good data for better care was at the forefront of every presentation. 💡 The new Slovenian ambassador to the UK, H.E. Sanja Štiglic, gave the welcome address to the audience and stressed the importance of supporting innovation and strengthening economic ties between Slovenia and the UK. She also mentioned some of Better's latest successes and embraced the work Better is doing in the UK and around the world. 🌍 ✅ We had Alastair Allen from EY talking about using the technology and data, Patrik Georgii-Hemming presented the data-driven journey of Karolinska University Hospital, and Tomaz Gornik, our CEO, explained how the postmodern EHR approach is the way to go as it enables a hybrid architecture combining a legacy (or new) EHR and a digital health platform. ✅ In the session about the Universal Care Plan, we heard from a sickle cell patient representative, Solome Mealin, who described what it is like to live with sickle cell disease and how a care plan helps her situation, and Dr Subarna Chakravarty, who works with sickle cell patients. There are definitely clear benefits of having a universal care plan for the city of London, as Nick Tigere, head of the Universal Care Plan programme, explained. ✅ Bram Stieltjes, Department Head of Research and Analytic Services from the Universitätsspital Basel showed us how they are building a data-driven hospital, Alistair Reid-Pearson, Chief Information Officer, and Lauren Hindley, Low-Code Lead, from The Christie NHS Foundation Trust guided us through how they are modernising the EHR with the help of data-driven solutions at the hospital. Dylan Roberts, Chief Digital and Information Officer from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board explained why they chose ePMA as the first step of their EHR strategy journey, and Anže Droljc, our Business Development Director, presented how Slovenia’s national health data platform is supporting a future-proof healthcare system. 🎯 ✅ In the workshop session of the event, the participants shared their views, opinions, expertise, and suggestions on how to make Better digital health products and solutions even better. Years of underinvestment in digital technology, particularly in community, mental health, and social care, have left a troubling legacy, that is why 73% of trust leaders identified financial limitations as a key obstacle to digital transformation.🚨 The survey ‘Digital transformation survey 2024: challenges, opportunities and priorities for trust leaders’, by NHS providers garhered 185 responses from 134 NHS trusts, shedding light on the hurdles the NHS is facing. The potential of digital transformation is immense: it can provide patients with better access to their own health data, improve care delivery, and empower staff with accurate information to guide decision-making and elevate the quality of care.
