Our SMASH fellow Tadej Novak is attending the 27th edition of the Conference on Computing in High Energy and Nuclear Physics in Krakow, Poland. This is the main conference covering software and computing in the field with more than 400 participants attending. Tadej presented his work on using transformer models to simulate silicon tracking detectors used in large particle physics experiments. Well, if you want to feed the ML algorithm, you certainly have to cook something. Here are some pics from the cooking source characterization experiment in Ljubljana. It was demanding, and it was fun! Thanks Jesús Yus Díez, Marta Via Gonzalez, Kristina Glojek, Luka Drinovec for dealing with the instruments and for trying to eat all that food! Thanks Griša Močnik for, among others, doing what apparently you like most: filter sampling! Thanks, of course, to the family for hosting the experiment! Unfortunately, we didn’t make any SMASH MSCA burgers... 😞

Simone Napolitano. 🎉 The 1st SMASHING workshop has officially come to a close! We were proud to host 78 international researchers and experts, working on cutting-edge AI and machine learning applications across sciences and the humanities. Participants came from 15 European countries (Slovenia, Germany, Austria, France, UK, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Netherlands, Switzerland, Estonia) as well as the USA, Pakistan, and India. We’re excited that our workshop coincided with the awarding of two Nobel Prizes for the first time in artificial intelligence and machine learning—fields that are at the heart of the SMASH project and were thoroughly explored in our discussions. Fun fact: We also had lecturers from institutions associated with Nobel laureates, including DeepMind and the University of Washington. 🙌 A big thank you to all participants and everyone who helped make this conference possible! 📷 Stay tuned for photo galleries and recordings of the talks! #SMASH #postdoc
