Meet Prof Dr Jako Burgers, the new editor-in-chief of the European Journal of General Practice

The WONCA Europe Open Meeting is starting with a presentation by Dr. Pavlos Theodorakis from the WHO on 'Status Quo of Primary Health Care in the WHO European Region.'

The second edition of the International Summer School for Resident Doctors and Young Specialists in Family Medicine took place in Bucharest, Romania, from September 2nd to 7th 2024, organized by the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Together for Education and Health Foundation, and the University Society of Family Medicine AMAS Foundation. On the occasion of the official opening, Prof. Dr. Ana Maria Alexandra Stănescu, the scientific coordinator of the Summer School, delivered a speech highlighting the importance of multidisciplinarity in family medicine. She emphasized the need to build bridges between this specialty and other medical fields to ensure an integrated and high-quality practice, as well as to encourage innovation and collaboration for the benefit of patients.  Participating in the opening of the summer school were Prof. Dr. Ana Maria Alexandra Stănescu - the scientific coordinator of the Summer School, Prof. Dr. Thomas Frese –WONCA Europe President-Elect, Prof. Dr. Alexandru Rafila – Minister of Health, Prof. Dr. Viorel Jinga – Rector of the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Prof. Dr. Cătălina Poiană – President of the Bucharest Medical College, Dr. Valeria Herdea – President of the National Health Insurance House, Major General Prof. Dr. Florentina Ioniță-Radu – General Director of the "Dr. Carol Davila" Central Military Emergency University Hospital. Prof. Dr. Thomas Frese  gave an impression about WONCA Europe, its Networks, Working Parties and Special Interest Groups. There was a high interest of the very active and innovative residents and young specialists. There were interesting discussions about how to keep our discipline attractive, develop it and achieve to address the specific needs in Romania Given the success of this event, the summer school has become a tradition and will continue next year with its third edition, once again under the slogan "Be the change you want to see in family medicine."
