The 3-day Aspiro offsite in #Montenegro 🇲🇪 is over - some of us are driving back via 🇧🇦 Bosnia and Herzegovina, some have already landed in Bratislava and continue to Prague, some remain in Montenegro to take care of the ongoing projects and some are headed to 🇹🇷 Turkey to visit several cities there. Plenty to reminisce about in the years to come: 😋 A multi-stage journey with artisanal lokum shopping spree at Novi Pazar. ⚡️ Project development blitz at the joint workshop with #Podgorica city administration. ☕️ Laptop work from different cafés and beaches to ensure the client deadlines are met. 🎩 Diplomatic reception at Slovak ambassador's residence to commemorate Constitution Day and network with our 🇨🇿 Czech and 🇸🇰 Slovak representatives, stumbling upon some clients there as well. 😌 The perfectly timed weather - an early morning storm waking us up at dark, rays of sun breaking through just as we arrived to a shuttered beach bar, ensuring solitude and calm morning work after the obligatory sea dip. 😻 Sunset over the mountains and sea as we dined on traditional Montenegrin fare while hungry cats waited patiently for the leftover fish. 🎓 Internal training by our alumnus and tireless collector of rare distillates Samuel Sulik on how to better structure and present data. 😱 Tasting different varieties of fresh figs near Skadar lake as the team was returning to Podgorica airport after a dynamic seaside drive. May there be many returns to our precious Montenegro. ❤️🇲🇪❤️🇲🇪

At our company offsite in #Montenegro 🇲🇪 we were welcomed by #Podgorica city administration led by Luka Đukanović, the city manager. Podgorica has ambitious #investment plans and can greatly benefit from Aspiro's expertise in preparing and executing municipal investments, improving the functioning of the city and its services. During a three hours' training workshop on a sunny morning, we 📡 Listened to the city's priorities 💡 Understood how the city administration is organized 📅 Agreed on priorities of the workshop and split into five working groups, each one consisting of a mix of city staff and our consultants ♻️ The Alpha group consolidated planned #solidwaste investments into a single package and planned next steps 🏢 The Beta group consolidated information about city building stock and prepared a draft concept note of a municipal #buildings #energyefficiency project ⛅️ The Gamma group developed an #IoT-powered #climateresilience program for #fireprevention and #stormwater retention, estimating the costs and implementation roadmap 💻 The Delta group visited city's #IT department and captured how different IT initiatives are organized, proposing pathways to #systemintegration and greater work efficiency 💰 The Epsilon group established basic #budgeting principles and #fundraising prerequisites, identified leftover budgets and potential synergies of the priority investments with ongoing or upcoming calls for proposals 📋 We concluded the workshop by each group presenting their findings and prepared documents, to be further developed in the coming days and used by Podgorica in their discussions with financiers and donors. The Aspiro annual offsite has begun! We travel to #Montenegro 🇲🇪 - half of us by cars, the other half by plane. Montenegro is one of our principal countries of business, its cosy and familial ambience always making us extend our business trips. Not to mention the beautiful nature and sea. ☀️🗻🌊 It is time for our many clients, partners and friends there to know the entire team and work together with us on new #projects and initiatives. The car people, traveling from Belgrade and Bratislava, met en route in Čačak, Serbia to be hosted by Alem Nukovic's family friend. Then the journey continued, onward to Novi Pazar and #Podgorica.

We are involved in the The World Bank's Digitrans program in Slovakia, which offers financial and technical supports for digitalization of MSMEs. Our role is to collect data from participating firms at the start and end of the program to help evaluate its effectiveness and guide future policies. Currently, support is being provided to 130 SMEs across Slovakia. As a pilot country, Slovakia's results could shape future World Bank efforts in SME digitalization. We're eager to see the progress in six months. My favourite morning this week was on Tuesday when we had the business breakfast on “Humanness in the Age of AI”. I remember the delightful aromas of pastries from the artisan bakery around the corner, complemented by the scent of fresh coffee made in our office kitchen. I also remember connecting with wonderful people. We shared how we utilize the time that technology frees up for us: I was pleasantly surprised that many of these business professionals use their spare time not for overworking but for low-key activities such as gathering mushrooms in the forest, planting seaweed underwater, or spending extra time with their kids. We smoothly transitioned in and out of a meditative practice together and discussed several important questions: 💭 How do we position ourselves as humans in the age of artificial intelligence? Do we compete with it, or do we explore other aspects of our nature that are more potent for giving us happiness? 💭 Are there positive and negative aspects of the AI revolution, or are there just aspects we can and cannot influence? How should we shape our mindset regarding it? 💭 While many of us are mindful of how we spend our time, many of our colleagues and team members are not. Is there anything we can do to help them find their way to their humanness? We did not come up with definitive answers, but we practiced asking important questions. I appreciate everyone who joined, and I hope that we at Aspiro can continue provoking thought and inspiring connections. P.S. Thanks to Lukáš Benzl from the Česká asociace umělé inteligence for organizing and to my colleague Martin Kobera for co-hosting with me. P.P.S. I learned that artisan bakeries like Pekárna Praktika require placing an order 24 hours in advance if you are buying for 10-15 people or more. This helps support local businesses without depleting their displays with a sudden large order.

We started the Aktobe digital opportunity study as the second pilot project within the City Digitalisation Initiative (CDI) by the EBRD. Our first visit to this north-western city in Kazakhstan was in mid-March, during a harsh winter typical of its continental climate. Temperatures can vary radically from -30°C in winter to +40°C in summer. These extreme conditions bring significant challenges: ⚠️ People get lost in snowstorms during winter. 🌊 Destructive seasonal floods occur in spring. 🥵 Dry and hot summers worsen the poor air quality in the industrial city of Aktobe. This year, floods became the main issue. The rapid switch from winter frost to spring temperatures, melting snowdrift, runoffs from the mountains, thawing frozen ground in the steppe, and breaking ice cover of the Ilek River all contributed to overwhelming the city reservoir, which holds 500 million m³ of water. The reservoir held in the end, saving the city, but the vast Aktobe region, comparable in size to Germany, was submerged. We planned to return to Aktobe in April, but due to a state of emergency declared by the city administration shortly after our first visit, we had to postpone the second visit to June. However, during this project break, we were not idle. Besides identifying digitalization opportunities, we proposed a climate resilience initiative to discuss with the city authorities. Already our impact has been appreciated in facilitating community dialogue toward a consensus on new investment priorities. We learned valuable lessons on solution-shaping for acute challenges of the city in Kazakh public administration context and hope to return there in the future to continue our support. #climatechange #Kazakhstan #floods #EBRD #developmentfinancing #citydigitalization #digitaltransformation #climateresilience
