About us
DisAI is a three-year Horizon Europe project with focus on language technologies and trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI) in the area of information disorders. Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies (KInIT), DFKI, CERTH and University of Copenhagen joined forces for this international project. The DisAI project focuses on disinformation combating, which we consider one of the most important societal challenges to tackle. The partners have a rising research record and involvement in international initiatives in the areas of natural language processing, media processing and information disorders. Our three main research in this project areas are: - Multilingual Language Technologies - Multimodal Natural Language Processing - Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence DisAI is part of the Twinning scheme, so the main project goals are improving KInIT’s scientific excellence and strengthening research management, administrative skills and support for excellent research at KInIT.

🚀 In September, PhD student at KInIT Ivana Beňová had the opportunity to attend the DisAI Summer School on trustworthy, multilingual, and multimodal AI at the Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies in Bratislava! 🤝 Throughout the four days, we explored cutting-edge topics such as Trustworthy and Explainable AI, Multilingual Language Models, and Multimodal Technologies. Ivana had presented her research during the Multimodality poster session and gained valuable feedback from international peers and senior experts. 🌍✨ 💬 As Ivana said: “A personal highlight for me was diving deep into multimodal AI and learning from leading researchers like Symeon Papadopoulos and Ahmet Iscen. It was inspiring to see so many students from diverse backgrounds sharing their knowledge and experiences.”

Qiwei Peng recently completed his two-week visit to Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies as part of the trustworthy branch of the DisAI project 🧑💻🎊 During this time, we focused on research within the field of Comprehensive Explainable AI, with a particular focus on improving the clarity of computed explanations for human users 💻 In the realm of fact-checking, clear and understandable explanations are crucial✨ #AI systems increasingly assist in verifying information and they must be transparent and accessible to users. An integral part of each mobility is also knowledge exchange, Qiwei therefore presented his experiences within the multilingual domain from his research at the Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen 🏫

🏫 Our DisAI summer school was a huge success! We are grateful for so many committed participants and all the inspiring speakers 🙏 The morning sessions in the second half of the school were held by lecturers such as Symeon Papadopoulos from Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) or Ahmet Iscen from Google, who explored a topic of multimodal processing 🧑💻 Prof Dr Maximilian Kiener from TUHH spoke about Ethics of #AI. Stefanos Papadopoulos from CERTH led an interactive lab focusing on multimodal #deeplearning. Participants actively engaged in practical exercises to apply presented concepts. 🤖 Martin Tamajka from Kempelen Institute of Intelligent Technologies presented about the potential of the AI-on-Demand Platform, particularly focusing on early stage researchers. Finally Jakub Šimko, also a member of KInIT, concluded the summer school with a workshop on "Scientific Writing and Presentation" 🙍♂️

DisAI Summer School participants also experienced an engaging excursion to Devin Castle! 🏰 At the end of the first learning day, after the last lecture, everyone embarked on a scenic boat trip 🚤. The cruise provided stunning views of the city and the nature surrounding it. Upon arrival, attendees explored the historic grounds of Devin Castle, immersing themselves in its rich history 📜. Following the excursion, a wine-tasting session took place. Guests enjoyed local Slovak currant wines, complemented by a small snack 🧀🍇. The event ended with a return boat trip to the city center. The excursion offered a delightful blend of Slovak history, culture, and local flavors 🇸🇰✨!
